FaZe beat Astralis to make eighth consecutive grand final

The European combine has put an end to Astralis' honeymoon tournament.

broky had a fantastic series against Astralis

FaZe have defeated Astralis in the IEM Chengdu semi-final with a 2-1 scoreline (Nuke 13-10, Ancient 5-13, Inferno 13-7).

"It felt strange finishing off the match without excitement," Finn "karrigan" Andersen joked in a post-match interview. "I told the guys that you can't play as fast on Inferno as on Ancient, so that suits us better. But we didn't know how they would approach Banana, and that's all you do as a B player."

The match was a rematch of their group-stage bout, where Astralis demolished karrigan and company in a two-map series, but the European combine once again came alive in an arena setting and leveled up their play.

This is now FaZe's eighth consecutive grand final appearance, as they reached the final in every CS2 tournament they have played and won three of them. They have however lost the last four, and are now looking to break the streak against MOUZ, who are their opponents this time around.

FaZe mirrored their map pick from their group-stage bout and decided to go for Nuke in the series. They started steady and found themselves 2-4 down early before a round win off the back of Helvijs "broky" Saukants's hero AK-47 gave them a lifeline, which they converted to a 7-5 lead at the switch. Robin "ropz" Kool and broky were the driving force in the first half as they combined for 22 kills, with the rest of FaZe putting up just 13.

FaZe won the pistol to start the second half before Nicolai "device" Reedtz called a solid comeback attempt that culminated in the Danes tying up the scores at nine apiece. That was as good as it got for Astralis, however, as FaZe stabilized and won four out of the last five rounds to close out a 13-10 victory.

Ancient began with a quick 4-0 lead for FaZe, but the karrigan-led team completely lost the plot after that. Alexander "br0" Bro won a crucial 1vs4 early on to get his team a round, and the Danes took that momentum all the way to a 7-5 half. The CT side was a breeze for Astralis, too, as they won six straight rounds to secure Ancient with a dominant 13-5 scoreline.

Inferno began as a brawly affair early on, but FaZe seized control in the latter portion of the half. broky's three kills on the full eco proved pivotal in keeping Astralis' economy under control, which helped FaZe secure a two-round lead into the second half.

FaZe's pistol-round victory put them in the driver's seat for the match, but they ran out of time for a bomb plant after a last-second rotation. device suffered a PC crash in the following round, however, and the round broke Astralis, who eventually dropped the map 7-13 and bowed out in the semi-final stage.

"It wasn't good enough from us today, but they were the better team today," said device. "It's a learning process for me. We wanted more and felt we could have gotten more, but it wasn't to be."

They are top team and they are the top team right now. Its faze era just admit it, but the choke. The choke is still there for them. Tell me, which team beat faze twice except vitality with mighty zywho and superlative donk's spirit?

they are the most consistant of course but saying it's an era where they aint winning it all and falling short to different teams almost everytime is not fair towards team who had an era to begin with. hell you could even say faze when they won grand slam had a better "era" than now

Why the fuck every time I try to argue with a faze fan I hear this kind of nonence? I say karrigan is a clown, I tell why I say karrigan is a bot, I tell why I say faze is a fraud org, I tell why And all I get from "fans" is crap like "ur ass umption" Rherotical question, I know it's because faze fans generally lack iq, but wtf people, at least try and have a conversation

Bro was decent. Its stabbi that are not consistent. If they can perform as when they were led by cadian then astralis will back. Staehr is decent, devve calls also decent + ruggah decent mind. If both stabbi not performing then they will go nowhere

Except they didn't win much with cadiaN and that's why the roster broke. It was two Blast trophies and second place finishes in events before Cologne. We all know they were gonna cut Teses off after not making playoffs of EPL. And you seem to forget about Stavn's drop off in playoffs.

Stavn's drop was all due to astralis moves for btoh stabbi. And for all of those you mention above, all due to stabbi's good performance, right? If both can perform like that in astralis then they could become contender like heroic i believe

I am talking about Stavn underperforming in Playoffs even when he was at Heroic. Jabbi wasn't that bad though. And yes, their form at Astralis wasn't great because of the role clash and BlameF calling the game around his passive playstyle. The debit has been promising. It shows they've been putting up the work and I believe they'll continue to improve.

5th lost final in a row to 4th different team? If they really lose yet another final this roster with frozen will feel cursed and it could break this team mentaly just like 2018 Faze with olof, guardian and niko. If someone can lose 5 finals in a row, Faze is surely the team to pull it out.

Olof and rain are also cold. Guardian also wasn’t tilter. Karrigan is still same. Only difference is Niko vs Frozen where Niko for sure is much bigger tilter and isn’t really mentally resiliant, but other than that I see no bigger resiliance in this vs 2018 lineup.

So what 2018 Faze with olof, niko and guardian made ESL New York, ELEAGUE Premier, IEM Oakland, EPL S6, ECS S4, Major and Katowice finals and still broke mentally. They were in 7 finals and won only 3 and it broke them especially Katowice and Major. Now Faze are on 8 finals and only won 3 so far including losing Katowice and Major yet again. If you don’t see similarities, I can’t explain it more. Sure there is no tilting Niko on the team this time around, but other than that I see no bigger resiliance in this roster.

Seems like you didn’t watch single karrigan interview about that time. He and olof said it multiple times that Boston loss was bad, but it wasn’t the end of the world, but Katowice final loss to life gaming flusha with 2 aces in 2 rounds broke them mentally and they never recovered. Olof took leave and karrigan was force to use few standins and didn’t have motivation to come up with new stuff when he didn’t know when olof returns and once he returned, niko was already questioning karrigans leadership and therefore whole team lost faith in karrigan’s calling which ended up with Niko taking over IGL duties when Faze went 0-2 in London Major group stage to comeback to 3-2. Few months after that karrigan was benched since as pure fragger he wasn’t enough. 3-0 win in Sydney was fluke and I say it as Faze fan since 2016, those were 3 close maps with 16-14, double overtime and quadruple overtime, Astralis were the better team but choked.
2024-04-14 00:38

i didnt read the interviews, but to me the reason why that faze lineup failed is because 1. olof left for so long and 2. niko fucked them over. when olof returned faze dominated every single team at epicenter (aside from astralis) and looked like the 2017 faze. after that they got a top 4 in iem oakland or something and removed karrigan because niko couldnt control his ego. thats when faze died with niko fucking them over for 2 more years. sydney may have been a fluke for sure, but a broken team cant fluke. it was karrigans calling and guardian going god mode that took down prime astralis, the greatest team in the history of this game the second places definitely had an impact on the team morale but overall i think it was niko who was the biggest problem, and im sure g2 without niko would do much better, im not even a niko hater its just facts

Frozen is not twistzz. There’s a good reason why twistzz has been in number 1 world ranked teams many times. Wouldn’t surprise me if faze lose the final, although they shouldn’t with the skill level of both sets of individuals.

Good structure and teamplay is the most important as u say, but in that structure u also need individuals to shine (jL and wonderful to extend your own example). In this team u need stavn to be one of those players, so ignoring your best players biggest flaw i just plain ignorance.

What if they don't show up because of a problem they acknowledge? Dev1ce talked about it in an interview and said they're addressing that particular issue. The best you can do is to have good teamwork so that others step up when your star is having those difficulties. Gla1ve knew how to set Dev1ce up in positions where he could have impact even when he wasn't playing well, like in Atlanta. It's not something you get over overnight and the team won't stop playing because one player has a mental block.
