Global Esports Tour Rio set to start

The Brazilian tournament will kick off in just a few hours, with eight teams battling it out for the grand prize of $100,000. Here is all you need to know about the event.

FURIA will play their first event in the post-arT era

Organized by the Brazilian Confederation of Games and Esports (CBGE), GET Rio 2024 will be the first stop of a series of Global Esports Tour events that will take place in Brazil between 2024 and 2026 with the support of national, state and local partners.

The event will take place between April 18-20 at Maracanazinho arena, which has a capacity of nearly 12,000. Eight teams from Europe and South America will compete in a double-elimination bracket, with the winner securing half of the tournament's $200,000 prize pool.

GET Rio 2024 is headlined by world No.14 FURIA, who will be attending their first event since benching longtime member Andrei "⁠arT⁠" Piovezan. Academy player Kayke "⁠kye⁠" Bertolucci will be filling the vacant slot while the organization makes a decision on a permanent replacement.

But FURIA are not the only team attending the event with a makeshift roster. Metizport will be fielding Nicolas "⁠Plopski⁠" Gonzalez Zamora instead of star player Linus "⁠nilo⁠" Bergman, OG will play with Mădălin-Andrei "⁠MoDo⁠" Mirea as their AWPer after benching Iulian "⁠regali⁠" Harjău, and paiN have temporarily promoted academy player Marcelo "⁠nyezin⁠" Ramos after negotiations with Sharks over Vinicius "⁠n1ssim⁠" Pereira's permanent transfer hit an impasse.

Below you can find the complete schedule for the event. The first two rounds of the upper bracket will feature best-of-one games, while the rest of the tournament will be played in a best-of-three format.

With so many good Brazilian players out there, Furia's management manages to ignore this fact and only makes bad signings... 1. they send hen1 away when they were top 4 in the world 2. they promoted Drop instead of Decenty to the main team 3. they kick the arT that was the soul of Furia instead of just kicking the warrior 4. bring chelo instead of Fer 5. They never considered the great talents such as: Felps, Lucaozy, Dumau, Latto, Doc, Togs, History... that is, Jim Carrey board... I tore my Furia shirt yesterday...
