SAW part ways with NABOWOW

The Portuguese team is in the market for a new coach shortly before the BLAST Spring Final.

NABOWOW had been with SAW since 2022

SAW have announced that they have dispensed with the services of head coach Daniel "⁠NABOWOW⁠" Brito. In a statement, SAW explained that the players and the organization decided to go in a different direction "with a focus on the team's evolution."

NABOWOW had been part of SAW's coaching staff since January 2022, when he was hired as an analyst and assistant coach. In April 2023, following Omar "⁠arki⁠" Chakkor's departure, he was handed the team's reins on an interim basis, but he ended up taking the job permanently just two months later.

During his time at the helm of the team, SAW secured a historical qualification for PGL Major Copenhagen and also claimed a spot at the upcoming BLAST Premier Spring Final, achieving their peak ranking of No.16 last month.

NABOWOW's departure comes just days after the team returned from ESL Pro League 19, where they finished fifth of their group. The Portuguese team showed signs of life after dropping down to the last-chance bracket early, beating Imperial and Eternal Fire in elimination series, only to be denied a spot in the playoffs by Virtus.pro.

"I'm still a bit speechless, I'm no longer part of SAW's team," NABOWOW wrote on X. "I just want to thank those who have always supported me and believed in me.

"It was an excellent first experience as a coach in which we achieved results that had never been achieved by a Portuguese team. That's something that I'm very proud of.

"As for my future, I'm open to talking to anyone interested in my work. You can contact me on Twitter, which is the easiest way to get in touch, or you can contact SAW."

SAW have little over a month to find a new coach before the BLAST Premier Spring Final kicks off. They are the only team outside the top 10 attending the event in London, which has a $425,000 prize pool.

I doubt it was a 2 sided decision. Furia probably bought him for good money, so SAW couldn't do much. RIP tuguinhas, but at least SAW will have money to improve things internally and find a new coach quite easily (I hope).

short term neither are upgrades as Nabo worked with them for so long and they still have one T1 tournament(Blast Finals) to play, at the end of the season i would understand a switch and i could see more potential in Juve long term but in the middle of the season it seems a rushed decision

Kicked twice by the same core in ftw and saw. Hope he finds a good org, I think he is great. As for saw I really hope they find a good coach, the best option in the Iberian scene now must be blade. I just hope it's not juve I don't rate him at all.

That's also the idea i get watching from outside ever since the birth of saw, both mut and rmn seem to have a lot of power in the management of the cs team, im not saying it bad. Im more inclined to believe the players (specifically mut and rmn) wanted a blow of fresh air in to the team and as they are not gonna kick themselves or any of the other players as they actually are a good fit they might have looked at coaching position as something to change. No sourcee on this, purely speculation, but i believe more in this than the management of saw wanting to kick him out of nowhere

I think they're getting BladE, he was good motivation-wise and sAw need a supportive coach (they crumble a lot in decisive moments). But I'm very surprised as NABO was very competent (you can check his map winrate % with sAw for instance), and he was the first portuguese coach to get a full pt team to a major.

as an org you don't make a decision like this to take a step back. now what makes sense is to consider someone with experience and i only see 2 (maybe 3) options: juve - he gained a lot of experience at itb and made history with qualification and top 8 at the paris major, a result that led him to step on other big stages at last year's iem cologne. already coached story, jerkz and arrozdoce in the past blade - needs no introduction on the iberian scene. in addition to having a vast career as a 1.6 and go player, the spanish coach took the lead and made history with movistar riders. peacemaker - highly unlikely option but considering his past at the highest level and the fact that he lives in portugal makes me put him on the list

for what pt community are saying, can be rmn that will take the coach role and find a new player for the team. the org already said that they wanted to improve the staff, the org itself so i think they will do a decision that will be for a short term and maybe put rmn as a coach or find a interin coach until end of blast. about juve, he's not coming. already signed with secret and its impossible to happen. about blade, maybe is a possibility about vts, he was in saw youngsters and ftw and maybe can be joining as a interin coach about peacemaker, he lives in portugal for quite some time, maybe can be a surprise for him to join the team

Yea Roman is a bit too old now to be playing at this high level. He's not terribly bad, but he's not great either. Switching to a coaching role would be good for him, I mean he's already accomplished what he wanted by getting into the majors.
