magixx: "I'm just doing some sh*t on the map; sometimes getting carried, sometimes not"

"It's great to be back playing because, after some time, I'm feeling so hungry," adds the Russian rifler.

Spirit have returned to the server in imperious form at BetBoom Dacha Belgrade after a six-week break in the aftermath of PGL Major Copenhagen. The Russian side is through to the grand final after a dominant display against Falcons and has yet to drop a map in the tournament.

Despite their success, Boris "⁠magixx⁠" Vorobiev says the team hasn't set any goals for the tournament and is treating it as more of a warmup for IEM Dallas and the BLAST Spring Final.

After their win against Peter "⁠dupreeh⁠" Rasmussen and company, the Russian rifler sat down with HLTV to talk about the upcoming final, Spirit's break, and his role in the team.

You've just beaten Falcons and made the final with another 2-0 victory. Business as usual, right?

There's not too much to say, but yeah, we made the finals, it's good.

Did you expect such an easy game?

I'm not sure that we have been setting any expectations going into the game, about how hard or easy it's going to be. We just went into the preparation, and we played well. It was kind of hard at the beginning of Anubis because we started really poorly. We were waiting for their plays, but we were not that ready. We expected [them], but we were not ready to face them when they peeked us, so that's why we were losing 1-6. But after some time, we managed to gather [ourselves].

You were out of action for six weeks ahead of this tournament. How is it to come back to officials?

It's great to be back playing because, after some time, I'm feeling so hungry, I want to play. I want to play officials, I'm getting tired of practice because it's a different game. Everything can be working in practice, but when you're playing an official match, it can be absolutely different because anything can happen. Those six weeks were not so good. Especially for me, coming back after the break, the first couple of officials might be kind of tough, but once I get used to it, I like to play.

Despite that, you've still won every map here so far. Did you come into this tournament maybe taking it as more of a warmup for Dallas and the Spring Final?

This tournament was definitely set as the warmup tournament before the two upcoming tournaments, which are Dallas and BLAST Finals. We had a bootcamp… I mean, after the Major, we had a few weeks off, maybe two weeks off, not playing the game. After that, we had a bootcamp. There was no goal to play something insane or win instantly, whatever, it was just a warmup before the two upcoming tournaments.

You're going to face either MOUZ or HEROIC in the final. Do you have a preference about who you would rather play?

I think it's going to be better to face MOUZ because they're a great team, they're currently on the rise. If they're not going to be affected by any kind of exhaustion after EPL, where they played for a few weeks straight, if they're not going to be tired, they're a great team. They're currently one of the best in the world, so it would be great to face them in the finals.

You said you didn't place any expectations on this tournament. But do you put any on the next two, Dallas and BLAST?

I don't think so, we're not really setting anything before the tournaments. We're more focused on playing the game, not setting high goals, and whatever happens, happens. We just need to play well at them and use this tournament as a warmup to be ready to play the next tournaments.

You guys became title contenders pretty quickly after you got your new players. Did anything change in your preparation because everyone is watching your demos now?

I have no idea…
