MOUZ suffer first group stage elimination since Brollan addition

The No. 1 team in the world is out early after losses to 9z and a G2 team with a stand-in after back-to-back tournament wins.

In a crazy finish to Ancient, Stewie, NiKo, m0NESY and huNter- all came up with big plays to eliminate MOUZ

Update: The Jake "Stewie2K" Yip clip has been updated, apologies!

G2 are through to the Group A lower bracket final and are set to face off against Liquid for a spot in the playoffs at IEM Dallas after eliminating MOUZ from the tournament in a 2-1 series.

Despite fielding a stand-in, G2 took advantage of MOUZ's Inferno weakness and came out on top of a back-and-forth finish on the deciding Ancient thanks to several big clutches late in the game.

Even Stewie2K, otherwise rather quiet throughout the tournament so far, found his impact with a crucial solo triple with an MP9 in one of the game-changing rounds of Ancient.

Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač, Nikola "NiKo" Kovač and Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov also contributed with huge plays in the Ancient finish, the trio securing a 1v3 and two 1v2 clutches in seven of the last eight rounds of the match.

These plays came after it looked like MOUZ assumed control over the series in the second half of the decider. Their confidence-boosting Nuke victory promised a return to form, but missing trade kills in some of the aforementioned situations meant they came up short in the end.

With the loss, MOUZ exit the event in 9th-12th place, which marks their first group stage elimination with their current lineup. The No. 1 team had just come off of back-to-back victories at ESL Pro League Season 19 and BetBoom Dacha and was looking to prove those who call them "studio merchants" wrong.

"We should perform, but of course the circumstances were really tough," Dorian "xertioN" Berman said on the desk after the match. "We had three weeks on the road with EPL and BetBoom, and after that having five days home where you have to take a break and we didn't play at all, it was really tough."

"We felt like we had a lot of weak maps that we couldn't work on. It is what it is, it just sucks to lose."

nexa was bad but siuhy was the worst player on the server despite the stats, he lost multiple rounds for his team single handedly and didn’t seem to have great calls or any control of the game as IGL. “Let’s try solo pushing a smoke again, it didn’t work the last three times but surely THIS time it will”. …….BOT

Torszi was horrific, bad shots missed. Notable ones on anc were the one onto hunter at mid and stew kn b for the 3k. Its funny coz the one time i pick torszi instead of brollan torszi shits the bed and brollans the best player for mouz by far…

I ain't gonna be too critical of suihy's stats themselves, because everybody can have a bad game and seems like he isn't as sharp mechanical this tournament as he was in Dacha and EPL, but one thing I gotta critique is definitely callling. I still can not comprehend call in 22nd round of Ancient, it's 11-10, stakes are high, and you decide to push through molotov with a C4 and with no utility support or any support whatsoever!? Like, If you fall, round might be pretty much over as it was, because hunter just smoked of A main and what are you going to do? And it's just one example... I genuinely think his calling wasn't on point today and I don't want to speculate the reasons, because it could be multiple things. Still kinda sad that they can't seem to break through that LAN pressure.

Yeah he lost bomb walking through Molly/smoke solo at least two times in that map, possibly three. Just had a ton of boneheaded solo plays that cost his team, and that isn’t even mentioning how disjointed the calling looked. I’m a fan of siuhy but this map 3 was truly heinous from him on all levels.

why? 300k > 100k they have their cologne spot either way. if you dont take the trophies and respect or whatever into account, it seems understandable to me that they would rather do betboom for bigger potential prize, as in this case dallas doesnt really offer them anything of importance. They came, tried what they could at the moment and it didnt work out. i guess for them its 'whatever, go next' also, im ofc not saying that losing to 9z and G2 is something good for them, but the point still stands

What a bad take, that prize money is irrelevant for players who earn more than enough + it’s a garbage bookie tourney with 0 crowd and only 8 teams, has a reason most top teams didn’t give a fuck about it . Go check which tournaments are played by proper tier 1 orgs (not mouz).

Are you mental? How do you think orgs make money to pay salary for their players, you know every turnament prize pool that a team wins the money goes to the org, and mouz already has a cologne invitatio so there is 0 insentive to play

Lmao are you seriously so naive to think mouz org needs that prize money to operate? If they did they’d be broke long ago since they didn’t win shit for many years. And you can’t operate a whole company on price money that also gets shared with players. 😂
2024-05-29 16:39

If Cologne spot does not matter for them, money is irrelevant, why play Dallas? Only because it has IEM in the name, and other top teams are there? You could maybe argue about Grand Slam, but i personally see no real point to tryhard for dallas, if you can secure far easier and bigger bag of money, and still take part in Dallas, why not? You didnt give a single reason for why dallas would matter to them, please do, beacuse i dont see any. regards

The tournament is a proper arena tournament with crowd and has tradition + Cologne qualification + IGS notch, that’s it, fairly straight forward. The price money in this case is just a bonus, the players who can win tournaments like these usually earn enough money so they’re not dependant on price money.

While i understand your point that Dallas might be important for many, i cant see why this makes mouz a "not tier 1 org". i'm going to repeat myself, but they have their cologne spot already, still plenty of chances to get igs, so only the 'prestige' is left. Even if its not critical, i dont see anything wrong with getting more money and 'skipping' a tournament that doesnt really bring anything to you except playing in an arena in front of a crowd. regards.

When I said that I exaggerated of course, no my real opinion about mouz is that they’re a tier 1 org, but a flawed one, they lack experience on the highest level of competition and they are often willing to let their star players go maybe because they have a cheap attitude. And if you let your star players always go, you can not build a consistent tier 1 org / team, this is a fact. Go compare mouz to Vit, G2, Faze, Navi - these orgs and others never let their players go unless they don’t want them anymore for practical reasons. So this is why I said mouz isn’t a real tier 1 org - the nerds would say they are a tier 1.5 org, that is perhaps more precisely what they are at the moment. And unless these factors change they will stay that way. And IEM Dallas is way more important than some bookie tournament, just alone for PR reasons / ad reasons, that are very important to orgs that are properly managed. Also in this regard mouz is a subpar org that don’t have the reach G2 or Faze for example have with massive YouTube channels etc - that’s why they don’t play low class tournaments that aren’t really good and don’t get many people really excited. Studio (only) tournaments are garbage in my opinion and wouldn’t exist in an ideal world, they are barely better than online tournaments.

They don't do better. It was a struggle against falcons, got destroyed by vita and barely scraped by mouz who, let's be real, have had a hectic schedule playing event after event and are tired and burned out. The 1v1 againts NiKo shouldn't have happened, stew multikilling with mp9, 1v3 vs huNter etc. That should have been a mouz game.

many rounds MOUZ could have won in ancient, at least 2 turning points. the 1vs3 in 6:9 with hunter left only, jim should not go through the smoke without check the hidden corner. and also the 2vs2 in 9:9, siuhy killed stewie2k, he should just go away to stick together with torzsi cuz torzsi was the one to plant the bomb, but he just let Niko get the chance to play 1vs1.

You must remeber Niko has personally revealed in an interview that the reason nexa is on the team is because of things he does for the team that cant be seen in the server.
