Intel Grand Slam race heats up as G2 pick up second trophy

NiKo and company have almost no room for error remaining as they look to get their hands on the $1 million prize.

G2 have moved to the front of the race for the Intel Grand Slam (IGS) Season 5 prize after lifting the IEM Dallas 2024 trophy. It was their second victory at an IGS-eligible tournament this season following their title-winning campaign at IEM Cologne 2023.

G2 match MOUZ and FaZe in winning two trophies, but they have one clear advantage over the other two: They are the only team that has won an EPT Championship tournament (IEM Katowice, IEM Cologne or an ESL-operated Major), which is one of the requirements to pick up the $1 million prize. (The other one is that a team has to win four trophies inside a window of ten events.)

Rasmus "⁠HooXi⁠" Nielsen's troops have three chances to complete the Grand Slam, which means winning two of the next three IGS-eligible events (IEM Cologne, ESL Pro League 20 and IEM Rio). Failure to do so will force them to win another EPL Championship tournament as their 2023 Cologne win will stop being considered.

Following their 9th-12th place finish in Dallas, Falcons are out of the race for the Intel Grand Slam. The core of the team were the reigning champions in Dallas after lifting the trophy in 2023 while playing under ENCE, but, like Vitality, they no longer have enough chances to win four trophies inside a span of ten events and must start over.
