Community reacts: Snax signs for G2

There has not been much love from the community for G2's left field signing of the Polish legend.

Snax's arrival in G2 has been met with a significant amount of scepticism

G2 commenced a revamp of their squad during this off-season, and it was a revamp many in the community felt was needed. The much-maligned Nemanja "nexa" Isaković and Rasmus "HooXi" Nielsen were moved to the bench, the former making room for hot prospect Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa.

Speculation was rife as to how G2 was going to resolve the IGL position. Plenty expected Nikola "NiKo" Kovač to move into the role, but instead G2 threw the community a spectacular curveball by bringing Polish legend Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski into the lineup.

In general the reaction to the move has been negative.

Much of the negativity surrounding Snax's introduction to G2 is centered on the numerous role clashes that the team will have to solve ahead of the new season.

Stat check: G2 throws roles out the window

Another common theme that has cropped up in the reactions to Snax's addition is the expectation that, after a honeymoon period, G2's form would drop off and the team would not be successful in the long term.

There does, however, seem to be some degree of excitement or at least curiosity as to how the reunion of Snax and Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas will work out.

It's not all been doom and gloom from the community. Some of the more positive reactions have suggested that this move was better than the alternatives and that Snax has more to offer as an IGL than some give him credit for.

And some people just wanted to wish their ex-teammate well.

m0nesy has to save money, buy his own buyout, and join spirit for free after the shanghai major, its total fucking bullshit that a kid this naturally talented isn't out there competing for eras and majors, specially when there is another crack out there roughly his age and roughly as good or better in donk. he needs to be mature and he needs to self-sacrifice if he truly wants to own the game, it will involve doing this that are not fun, he will have to spend the money out of his own pocket, like Neymar did.

That doesn't necessarily make it a lie. HooXi was the only one who actually saw the crash and killed Jame. Him saying "he timed out" could easily get lost in the chaos of the situation after they had already settled for the plan of going for the retake if they managed to get a kill.

Are you really suggesting that when jame comp crash and hooxi yelled it not once but twice. That the team didnt know? Even after the game they would have talked about it. Monesy had to lie because he tweeted "we mentally broke them" and got backlash for it

Just saying in the heat of the moment they might not have acknowledged it. Also doesn't make it untrue that they broke them mentally. They were nowhere to be seen on the third map.

I thought it was bait but seems like u truly believe in sh1ro>m0nesy, so let's see why m0nesy is better: Better rating , impact, adr, only slightly lower KD whole playing way more aggresive and less saving, over 20% opening attempts for m0nesy with 3rd highest opening kill ratio, over 0.1 rating edge for m0nesy in last 3 months, playing in way worse team (better team = more wins = more rating) Anyways, this should show that m0nesy is around top1-2 in hltv top10 while sh1ro will be top4-6, so even hltv prefers m0nesy Maybe counter question, why do u think sh1ro is better than m0nesy?

Spirit need a passive awper though, they have enough aggressive players as it is and m0nesy did struggle quite a bit when playing passive under aleksi

M0nesy is A great addition to any team, just look at his impact , while I agree spirit already have enough aggro in donk+z0ntix+chopper, having him over sh1ro would definitely give them an era

Why would you pay 2M$+ for m0nesy when you have sh1ro in the team? Also you won't be able to sell sh1ro for a good price

I agree with the guy above, Faze, Vita, Spirit & mouz are definitely better than G2. As much as I luv broky I have to say m0NESY would be a FITTING upgrade for Faze and mouz, as Vita have ZywOo which replacement for m0NESY wouldnt do anything particularly special and Spirits style requires more passive awper as the team itself already has enough aggro players.

They won Dallas with Nexa and Stewie. Malbs and Snax are far better than Nexa and Stewie. End of discussion right there. "muh roles". Dude if you can slot a washed Stewie into whatever pieces you want him, you can definitely do it with a Snax that fragged at the top end for Top 30 IGLs. I feel like i'm hyper contrarian here, but I think this lineup will work.

I just did some analysis that i'll post tomorrow once the yuropoors are awake again. Snax is the 5th best IGL statistically and the 2nd best European (after Chopper). Exit/bLitz/biguzera are top 3 statistically. edit: non-AWP of course

Well, here's the thing: That's exactly what the article says. It will probably work in the short term due to honeymoon etc., just like when stewie stood in. You're not hyper contrarian, you're just mixing up short term with long term and misjudge/underestimate the weight of role clashes based on your false initial assessment. It's easy for you to do so because there won't be any consequences for you. Probably no one will ever remember your post here and that's totally fine, but G2 entered a high risk scenario and it's not a shame to be realistic about that, because for this to also become a high reward scenario it will take a lot.

If you take 2 mins to think about this: " It will probably work in the short term due to honeymoon etc" You realize it makes no sense. Are you willing to put money where your mouth is? Do you sincerely believe there is a "honeymoon effect" that can be observed statistically? I would bet my life savings that it doesn't exist in any way.

I don't bet. There may be no clear statistic evidence, but it's quite obvious still that a newly formed team, especially with a new IGL, thus new methods, tends to perform quite well in the short term, as opposing teams can't really prepare for it at first. The latest example would be Astralis with dev1ce becoming the IGL. They performed decent initially but then dropped off pretty quickly. They're yet to show if they can reclaim the uptrend once again, but that's not the point. Could be the same with the new G2.

Snax is not so bad, but he is already over 30, in the future you need to take a younger one, how long will he last, a year, maybe two?

Let's be honest: this "teams need to invest in young players only" thing is a complete myth. The only young players worth investing in are star players like m0nesy, donk, b1t,etc. There's not a single team in the top 10 that hasn't made a roster move in the last 12 months. Players are coming in and out of rosters more freely than ever. We have an international NaVi, a Russian C9, an Israeli Vitality, a Liquid with zero Americans... Things that would be unthinkable to any fan like 3 years ago. There's no point in only signing young players when the chances of them lasting in your roster for more than two years are slim. Snax in two years will be younger than karrigan is today. If he's great for a year or two and then falls off massively. Who cares? They'll just replace him.

people really prefer hooxi over snax? I mean even with superstars like Niko and M0nesy Hooxi wasn't able to win as much as was expected by this team. I think Hooxi had enough time to show his worth, and even though I don't think he's a bad IGL you just need firepower these days
