HEROIC are the first team to have a map forfeited at an ESL event due to the new policy

HEROIC have had their first map victory overturned at ESL Pro League Season 20 after one of its players was found to be using Snap Tap, ESL has announced.

Damjan "⁠kyxsan⁠" Stoilkovski's side is facing Ninjas in Pyjamas in their opening game in Malta and stole the Ninjas' Ancient pick, 13-10, to kick off the series. During the break between maps, HEROIC's players looked visibly confused and unhappy, and after the game resumed it was revealed why.

"The first map has been overturned as HEROIC have been caught using Snap Tap," Adam "⁠Dinko⁠" Hawthorne said on the broadcast. "Which has allowed NIP to win the first map and they are now 1-0 up in the series."

The penalty comes less than a week after ESL announced it would no longer allow movement-automating keyboard features such as Razer's Snap Tap and Wooting's SOCD at in-person events, starting at ESL Pro League Season 20.

The features are allowed in online tournaments for the time being, but are expected to be banned "when detection and enforcement is possible," an ESL representative told HLTV.

ESL bans controversial keyboard features on LAN

The tournament organizer's ban came after Valve took a hard-line stance against the features and implemented a detection feature for them in matchmaking.

HLTV has reached out to ESL for comment on how penalties will be enforced in the future, including for repeat infractions. This story will be updated when we hear back.

The game detects snaptap n disables it anyways. There was no advantage gained. This is by far one of the biggest robberies ive seen in a while. Yet everyone can use rappysnappy and all these other bullshit keyboard modes without issue.

This is not true. The game does not detect and disable Snap Tap, it only disables multi-action binds. It detects Snap Tap on Valve servers and kicks players for having it on (again, doesn't disable it), but that is only on Valve servers.

So the game detects it or valve servers? Why would you not just use the same commands on your server to detect snaptap? Its what we do in sim racing esports to stop cheating. Seems like quite an oversight or pure laziness. Couldnt imagine ESL not having the funds to hire proper personnel to configure their servers. Lol

Valve has only enabled detection for it on their servers. ESL does not have access to that detection method.

can someone tell how they can detect if player using snap tap or not? and why is it even a thing if its not working in game after last updates from valve and esl banned this on their tours? if its banned shouldn’t there be like an automatic block from esl admins for player with snaptap on to join server

Yes, but do you really think they do this in between the maps? If they would do this, it would probably be after the game.

Maybe they're being more thorough about it right now since they just made the rule change. Also, it's better to have a team just forfeit a map than throw the whole series away.

Yes, it is. ESL servers don't have auto-detection, but admins checked it. It is sad, but at the same time, why don't you disable snaptap permanently in your computer ? It is not like you can use it on any official matches.

valves detection has to be manually enabled on third party servers iirc, which esl probably doesn't want to do since it could result in a false positive
