Vitality lost just four rounds against Astralis

Vitality's captain, Dan "⁠apEX⁠" Madesclaire, was one of the seven IGLs to sign an open letter in protest of BLAST allowing Astralis' addition of Casper "⁠cadiaN⁠" Møller ahead of the tournament.

Vitality were the only team to directly face the Danish squad so far, however, as the teams met in the opening round of the Fall Final. Lotan "⁠Spinx⁠" Giladi and company came to play against the Danes and won the first map 13-0 before getting the job done with another dominant 13-4 performance.

After the game, Spinx spoke to HLTV about the victory, the increased stakes ahead of the match, and Vitality's expectations for the rest of the tournament.

Congrats, quite a dominant victory. How did it feel on the server from your side?

It feels good. We were pretty dominant as a team and as individuals. I'm just happy we are performing because we also show that we are not only winning, but the way we are winning, as we are not giving the enemy team a single round. If we can, we will be focused 100% on the game. So yeah, it feels good.

You say you don't want to give teams a single round. Were you perhaps even more focused considering who you played against?

Myself, no, I don't care about the entire situation. But I know some people wanted us to win because of the situation. So for these people, I'm happy for them and I'm happy for me just because I won the game.

I wanted to ask about the mentality of the team. You obviously won Cologne, which is a huge achievement, but then EPL didn't exactly go to plan. Did you guys intentionally take it a bit easier after the Cologne win?

We didn't take it easier. I think we did pretty decently at EPL, but unfortunately, we lost to Eternal Fire in the quarters. I think they played pretty well, but we lost the game because of silly mistakes, and we could have won that game.

It was really close, we could have won this one, but it's part of Counter-Strike. You lose, you win, no one is perfect 24/7, and we didn't play our best. They also played really well, it happens sometimes.

Kind of, yes. First of all, we are not instantly thinking about the title. We have another game, and we focus on one game at a time. But we are Vitality after all, and when we go to the tournament, the title is the goal.

Your next game is against Liquid or Spirit. Who would you rather face?

I don't care, I think both teams are pretty good right now and kind of on the same level. I think Spirit can pop off more compared to Liquid, but overall, both of them are really good. If you want to win the title, you need to be ready to face anyone, so it doesn't really matter.

Honestly, I find the controversy kind of stupid. The teams are basically saying they don't want to face opposition that is at their best, despite following all of the rules as set out by BLAST. It's their tournament, if they say something is allowed, then it's allowed. If you don't like it, then you don't participate in their tournaments. Controversy over.

so cheating and lying is ok? do you understand that they didnt let degster have a substitute because he had visa issues because hes russian and he had no control over it. but they let astralis get a pro player instead of the coach for no good reason. thats why because its not ok to let one team over another.

Following the rules BLAST sets out is the opposite of cheating. You may not like how BLAST applies it's rules, but that's not the same as cheating. BLAST even asked for clarification, and there's precedent for denying after clarification is provided, and they STILL accepted it. So clearly Astralis did everything as per BLASTs requirements. Literally definitionally not cheating. YOU might think they lied, but BLAST doesn't. And their opinion is the only one that matters.

I know it is a rare and almost no one have heard about it, but have you ever heard of something called covid? I know it sound crazy and you might not have the tools to understand, but it’s something where you can have zero symptoms - yet still have it - and then you are fit to play online, but you shouldn’t go to LAN and make other people sick. Some people have zero symptoms, yet others can get quite sick. I’m not surprised you haven’t heard about covid, so its understandable it’s beyond your imagination!

They specifically said he was 'unfit to play'. Nowhere has that been proven to be a lie, because 'unfit' is intentionally ambiguous and we don't know if that was related to his health or not. Maybe they argued that he's bad at the game and that makes him unfit to play in the tournament, I don't know.

Him being sick or not is only part of the main issue. The main issue is that by BLAST's own rules, once you submit a team, it's closed. If a player on said team is sick or "unfit to play" and don't have a dedicated substitute, the coach is to act as substitute. This has happened twice iirc and both team were denied emergency substitute and were only able to use their coach as substitute. Regardless, what Astralis did to br0 is scummy.

Forget the cheating part, they quite literally robbed br0 off a spot that he earned it himself. They were scummy because of that, and on top of it lied on his behalf. That kind of behaviour can't be praised. It's like working for a diploma to be taken away from you at the ceremony.

I like lots of teams too outside of my region for sure but I have heard and see lots of people dont like vitality (including myself) because of apex and other minus vibes except Xie Woo. Mostly french and jewish people likes them but this is a nother page of book. I understood the situation of tournament later so dont mind me what I stated there :) Have a good day bro

i actually see alot of ppl that like vitality honestly, ppl either hate or love apex and alot like him(i liked him before he played with spinx and flamez for example). I also start to see alot that like flamez, british ppl like mezzi and honestly there is no reason not to like him lol and spinx some like him and some dont care about him i guess. zywoo is just zywoo so most like him. i respect your opinion but from the forums and community vitality is pretty well liked it seems. have a good day btw man
