Mauisnake is at a Big Event for the first time since IEM Katowice

Alex "⁠Mauisnake⁠" Ellenberg has been hired for BLAST World Final as an analyst, his first Big Event in eight months.

The American pundit appeared on Showdown in August and has been re-hired by the Danish tournament organizer for its Singapore World Final.

It s personnal preference...putting it down to "haters" is so simplistic and symptomatic of special snowflakes who can t take any criticism whatsoever. Thorin ALSO doesn't break down demos like that, his specialty is specifically the history of the game. The analyst desk isn't just about breaking shit down. I mean you must keep in mind Richard HAS watched demos in the past. He's sat behind teams while they called and played in the past. He's had many conversations with in game leaders and coaches about the game. I think its reasonable to throw out some takes , even without watching demos, and trusting that you have a decent eye for this stuff. I think rl is pretty rusty, he stopped watching the game for a while and probably only started seriously watching it again since pgl. I think his analysis is weaker than it used to be because of that. But I also think that's temporary. And also doesn't reflect on his prior analysis work on desks back when he was "in form" But yeah anyway I don't think rl necessarily just references narratives. I think if you look at his analysis prior to him leaving the scene momentarily, that'll become obvious. Also he was one of the best voices for shining light upon up n coming tier 3 players in the space for a Long time. And that was based purely off his own observations , not narratives that didn't exist for said unknown players. But i don't necessarily think having a correct point = having a good point worth bringing up on a desk. I think sometimes throwing something out that's not correct but is great narratively. And then allowing the others on the desk to explain why they disagree with said take, Can be more valuable than rehashing a take everyone's already went over plenty of times over the last few tournaments. For example. Pimps infamous "should we start blaming s1mple" line. Yes that was pretty dumb, no we shouldn't blame s1mple, not then especially. But it was quite interesting to hear his reasoning, and then to hear counter reasoning. Rather than just hearing more s1mple praise , we instead hear a perspective against s1mple, and then we get the same s1mple praise we would've gotten, but now under the framing and lens of "how is s1mple NOT the problem" which adds aa bit of a spin to the desk. I do agree with everything you said though. I just think that there's a bit of preference here at play. Where you prefer a desk to be filled with people who are nigh guaranteed to know what they're talking about at all times. I just do indeed think that's nice, but would rather prioritize an interesting desk. Not to insinuate that you can't have both! I actually feel that color commentators are where most analysis is given in the post covid era. Analysts realized that on a desk everything is TOO structured, where the behind the scenes staff picks the points to discuss for you, so if you had some big point to make but they want you to focus on entirely different rounds, then welp you don't get to discuss your point, and you have barely any time to make a point anyway. So alot of them simply transitioned to casting (Moses and spunj are the obvious examples) as when you're casting you have the entire games length to break the game down. Plus it pays alot more lol so it would be disingenuous to not mention that I suppose. I think if you have a Richard Lewis as an analyst and not a host. You could really use a maui or ynk who have loads of in depth knowledge. But I think that's what makes him not an s tier analsyt. Rather than it being what makes him some c tier analyst. I mean if you have both pimp and maui you could really use a ynk or maniac (fuck him as a person, I mean solely as an analyst) So I don't think it's too much of a negative trait to say if you have rl as an analyst you should have someone there who goes into demos to balance that out. Anyway that's just my perspective, sorry for typing out the Bible in response :D

it's really hard to stand behind NiP and call your self reasonable, NiP has been one of the worst orgs around if not top 1. Currently in court over stealing player's sticker money, just one of the bad things that org is up to... No idea mate. Maui explicitly stated on stream after that it was a joke. I remember it in more detail now. It was probably on one of the podcasts that he does with Thorin, Hot Take Point Made or Snake and Banter he said something something then ended with "dickhead" comment. After that Maui was streaming on twitch and realised he got blocked by spunj on Twitter then he stated that he was joking on the podcast and thought it was obvious enough that it was a joke. Guess he wasn't the cool guy all along that people thought he was and instead has petty grievances here and there.

here's the issue where I support Spunj here: I cannot call you a "dickhead" because two of us aren't close, can't do that even in a joking manner. It takes a certain level of relationship between us for that to be allowed and for us to insult each other on daily basis without it being insulting. I think it's obvious that Maui is not that socially capable to understand that, on one of his "hot takes" during announcing news he said "oh I have a fun one here, Electronic and his wife got divorced!" - which is like wtf - man has a kid and wife is taking that away from him, there can't be anything fun about divorce. i had same take as you. imo Frozen should've slotted into all of twistzz's spots 1 for 1. team should not make a compromise just for frozen. if they had to compromise then that was a bad fit imo and frozen should never be in faze. I do not think Frozen is good in twistzz roles, he's not that type of a player. I also do not think Faze ghosted twistzz, I think he just got antsy and in all fairness he did a very stupid thing.
