SAW spoil s1mple's LAN return with last-round victory over Falcons

The Ukrainian star's CS2 LAN debut was a close affair but ended in defeat.

s1mple had an unremarkable showing and fell short of a 1 rating against SAW

The ESL Challenger Katowice series between SAW and Falcons was full of expectations as Oleksandr "⁠s1mple⁠" Kostyliev played his first CS2 LAN match and made his return to offline play for the first time since October 1, 2023.

Falcons, who have been struggling enough to make mid-season changes ahead of the RMR and removed top-performer Álvaro "⁠SunPayus⁠" García from the starting five, fell to SAW in the best-of-one opener in Poland with a viewership surpassing 45,000 on the main stream only.

Ag1l won a crucial 1vs1 in his LAN debut with SAW against Falcons

SAW got off to a brilliant start on the CT side despite losing the pistol round as only Emil "⁠Magisk⁠" Reif was showing signs of life for Falcons with 10 frags at the half on the attack while Marco "⁠Snappi⁠" Pfeiffer, s1mple and Peter "⁠dupreeh⁠" Rasmussen totaled nine in the first 12 rounds.

The Portuguese side had a healthy 9-3 lead going into the attack, but a triple by dupreeh was foreshadowing a resurgence by the Dane, who went on a tear on the defending side.

s1mple finally got his hands on an AWP in the 16th round and got the opening kill to put his team two rounds behind SAW, 7-9. He went on to have more impact than on the attack — albeit anecdotal compared to dupreeh, who tallied 19 kills on the CT side and was instrumental in Falcons' resurgence.

Falcons even took an 11-10 lead, but newcomer André "⁠Ag1l⁠" Gil, who was making his LAN debut with SAW, spoiled the party and won a crucial 1vs1 — against none other than dupreeh — that kickstarted a three-round revival to seal the deal, 13-11, in the final round of regulation.

Falcons will now have a complicated series on Saturday against the highest-ranked team at the event, Eternal Fire, in the Group A elimination match, while SAW will face B8 later for a spot in the playoffs in the winners' match.

I saw that clip, why would he not continue to push if he heard the sound of him leaving ramp, I don't think the timing was there for him to get to cave, so if dupreeh continued to push he probably had him back turned. And then to not stick it even tho it was planted for ramp, if he actually thought he went cave... Very confusing play.

and think about next opponent they will face. Eternal Fire is differente beast. With Saw they had chance cuz they benched one player and coach. Chances were good but still they could not win.

I can only imagine how toxic s1mple becomes during intense moments when the team is about to lose, i hope im wrong, but if he is indeed toxic it will for sure dismoral the team even more, especially when niko joins. Its still early days, but i can for sure say that if there would be a toxic enviroment in that team with all those experienced players where each of them having their own deserved say/oppinion then the team is not going to work no matter who plays in it or coaches it, but im lookong forward to improvements for rmr, but if not, then GG. its simple, SAW is an actual team with real tactic and teamwork while falcons is just random strats that depend on individual power, the reality is that even if you are zywoo, donk, niko or whatever when you fight 1 v 2 the chances are you will lose, until falcons start being an actual TEAM they wont win even if niko joins them now

Why are falcons going for ancient and Anubis when they've got veterans with hundreds of games on the games core maps. Seems like a 0iq move when you've got zero team synergy

even though s1mple is playing horrible, HLTV will probably put him in HLTV top 20 this year. they need to apease his fans. like when they gifted him HLTV number 1 player in 2022 when he played like absolute trash 2nd half of the year. gotta cement that legacy and beat zywoo to first player to win HLTV #1 3 times
