APAC region rejoices as FlyQuest eliminate DRILLAS from Asia RMR

FlyQuest have put an end to what fans dubbed the European colonization of the Asia RMR.

FlyQuest are through to the lower bracket final

FlyQuest are through to the Perfect World Shanghai Major Asia RMR lower bracket final after dispatching DRILLAS in an exciting three-map series that ended in triple overtime.

The match between FlyQuest and DRILLAS was a loaded one as one of the favorites in the APAC region took on a team that used a loophole — substituting a player from the Asia region with one from Europe, thus breaking the core that allowed them to qualify for the Asia RMR — to play the region's RMR fielding a European-majority squad in the lower bracket.

Fans and commentators from the APAC region dubbed it the colonoziation of the Asia RMR and rallied behind their region's teams against the squad which had streamer and backer Mark "ohnePixel" Zimmermann's face as their logo.

DRILLAS' first loss in the tournament came at the hands of The MongolZ, who after their victory tweeted: "To all other teams in the Asia RMR: this is our home. Defend it with pride and honor. Protect the chance for Asian teams to rise and the opportunity for our region to grow stronger."

The celebrated victory in the region came as no easy feat for FlyQuest, who after winning their Anubis pick, 13-9, were smashed on Dust2, 2-13.

Ancient became the final battleground, where DRILLAS were on their way to victory with a four-round streak that brought them from an 8-11 deficit to 12-11, but a massive four-kill round by Declan "Vexite" Portelli kept his team in the game.

It then took three rounds of overtime, but in the end FlyQuest proved that DRILLAS falter when coming from behind, which they did against The MongolZ, and closed it out 22-19 after a clean CT side put them on match point.

tbf Drillas had a good event for who they are... beat LVG in a bo1, took a map from MongolZ, a top 10 team in the world, and went into a nailbiter series against a top 30 team in the world and arguably the best team in Oceania

yep, and they had to go through a lower bracket run in the QC. so according to the rules, that qualified them for the asia rmr 🤷

Well deserved elimination. I understand the anger from the Asian fans. This team was a very strange experiment, if Ohne only cared about giving players a chance or whatever he would've just made an apac majority team, but he didn't, cheesed it to try and get his face in the game and lost. Good riddance.

Basically the way the major qual worked one aussie team was guaranteed to make it. rather than take the opportunity to play in EU and get better they decided they didn't want the challenge just the easy paycheque and stayed in aus. And in turn kept teams out of the international scene by staying here taking all the qual spots, Pro League, Majors, ESL events etc etc. They have kept our scene down and young players from getting international experience. It's their choice to stay ultimately but idk many people who, if given the opportunity to play EU cs and get out of our region, wouldn't kill for the chance.

Honestly, based on your flag and faceit lvl i was hoping for some interesting insides like "leaking" fq players faceit comms when they play pugs with fellow aussies in which their motivation is revealed. But still, thanks for taking the time to answer.

I've played with and against all the FQ players in pugs, alistair is by far the best teammate and dexter by far the worst. I dislike dexter especially since he ruins up and coming talents like those disastrous mouz and fnatic stints. FQ actually offered nettik a position but he declined as he was enjoying his time in Rooster greatly until Talon came to him with an irresistible offer, and from what I heard one of the major reasons why he didn't join FQ was because of dexter's demeanour and system

It's not like they say much. Saying stuff like "bro when are you going to EU" to INS just makes him say like "haha bro idk about that." Other people swear they heard dex and co took the FQ offer because they wanted to be AU based but I haven't heard it from any players directly. I know a lot of the players a below them in the OCE pyramid really don't like that they didn't end up going to the EU for a long time, but Alistair is right IMO, just beat them, prove you're better and you get the spot. I don't think a lot of the other high lvl OCE players would relocate to Europe either, I think it's just envy.

Well fucking deserved indeed, rule bending abusing clowns jijiehao was ok, pre-sub drillas was REALLY pushing it and post-sub drillas is genuinely just a cheap shot at something that they know they dont deserve normally.

It makes me happy to know that people with common sense predominate and that they are not justifying the fact that a European team has participated in a qualy where they did not belong.

There are regions in CS for a reason. To boost interest in CS globally. If the best APAC team is 200th in the global ranking does not matter. Rule abusing with having 4 eu players is just morally wrong and to the detriment of CS globally.

The regions teams ranking quite literally does matter because else they will have more or less spots in the major... RMRs are mostly designed around qualifier logistics, not regional representation.

Nice job, FlyQuest, for sending those thieves back home. I’ve read Ohne's interview, and he’s essentially a double-standard hypocrite pretending to be a self-justified victim after benefiting from crippled rules. Ohne’s fans don’t care about the future of Counter-Strike in Asia—they just want fun, which I understand. But the truth is, Ohnepixel and his Drillas are taking opportunities away from Asian teams, preventing them from competing on bigger stages, whether it’s the Major itself or all the RMRs. Of course, you can blame Asian fans for their anger or sarcastically call them “fun people at parties,” or even tell them “cry is free.” For non Asian players, it’s just entertainment, but for Asian CS, we need teams to play on bigger stages to attract attention from larger markets, investors, and fans. As for what Ohne said about not being here just for the money... Well, hundreds of years ago, white colonists came to Asia claiming they were here to “enlighten” the “barbarians.” In reality, they were just here to exploit the locals for profit.

Bro thinks a virtual match in a video game is like slavery because one team is European and the other is Asian. And then they get mad when they get called "low IQ". Go figure.

Don’t blame them that much , because it’s pure ranking for EU RMA now. Through normal channel there is no way they can qualify. They need to grind their tank up. Because it was like a last minute setup , Asian RMR is the only way to go.
