Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024 Americas RMRFalleN secures 16th Major appearance as FURIA outclass M80
FURIA were in cruise control throughout the series, and deservedly grabbed a Major berth.
FURIA have bagged the last Major spot on offer in the Americas RMR, outclassing M80 comfortably on Anubis (13-8) and Vertigo (13-8) to earn a 2-0 series win.
Not only did this victory secure Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo his 16th Major appearance, it also secured an eighth appearance in a row for FURIA as an organization.
"It feels like a weight off my shoulders" FalleN stated in a post-match interview with Pala "Pala" Gilroy Sen, and the storied IGL contributed much to lifting that weight himself. He called strong T-sides, regularly outbraining M80 in the mid-round, which set FURIA up for success.
M80 perhaps should have made the series closer, they started 7-2 on Anubis thanks to Mason "Lake" Sanderson's playmaking and were 5-2 up on Vertigo, only to collapse on both occasions.
Two big swing rounds went against the NA side, which may have changed the complexion of the series. On Anubis they fell to a Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato 3k against a half-buy round, which heralded FURIA's comeback, and Fritz "slaxz-" Dietrich narrowly missed a flank timing on Vertigo, which allowed FURIA to build a decent T-side haul.
Still, M80 would have struggled to deal with the firepower KSCERATO and Yuri "yuurih" Santos were bringing to the table, as well as the imapct at times of Marcelo "chelo" Cespedes, and the rather poor performance of Michael "Swisher" Schmid definitely hurt their chances.
