João "⁠story⁠" Vieira has committed his future to SAW until the end of 2027, the Portuguese organization announced Monday. The positive news comes as a welcome break for SAW following the surprise double-benching of star players Rafael "⁠arrozdoce⁠" Wing and Michel "⁠ewjerkz⁠" Pinto.

story has been in SAW's ranks since July 2022, when he and ewjerkz were picked up from FTW in a deal that saw Renato "⁠stadodo⁠" Gonçalves and coach Rui "⁠vts⁠" Soares move in the opposite direction.

The 22-year-old has established himself as a key member for the Portuguese team, who defied all expectations this summer when they reached the semi-finals of IEM Cologne.

He went on to have the two best LAN events of his career outside of the Iberian Peninsula as he averaged a 1.20 rating in SAW's semi-final run at ESL Challenger Atlanta — arrozdoce's final event with the team — and a 1.19 rating in their title-winning campaign at ESL Challenger Katowice.

SAW's season ended on a disappointing note as the team couldn't qualify for the Major after losing to SINNERS, Natus Vincere and BetBoom in Europe RMR A. Shortly after returning from Shanghai, the team announced that ewjerkz was joining arrozdoce on the bench.

The Portuguese team, who will attend ESL Pro League Season 21 in February, finalized their roster with the signing of former FTW and GTZ member José "⁠Shr⁠" Gil.

Things change. 2028 still seems very far away. Who's to say a newer, more talented awper doesn't emerge from Portuguese pug lobbies? Or worse yet; it's very possible that SAW messes up hiring and puts story with 4 bots who can never take him back to being competitive in S-tier tournaments. And he's gonna have to stay there until 2028, missing out on his younger years to play with subpar players. Signing a 3 year contract wasn't story's brightest moment.

No one will ever want either of them, they're good players but old. So its not really relevant if they've a renewed contract, also they're part of the organization "shareholders" so they will leave when they want to or they feel they need to.

Some people think ewjerkz got benched because saw don't like him or something (they hardly read the articles), there's not much reasoning for some of these comments other than the fact that right now it's trendy to make fun of saw because of the changes happening to the squad, that's all. Story likely got a good deal out of this, saw lost 2 of their talents, they can't afford to lose another one (which is also very vocal inside the server and many believe he'll become the IGL one day, and it would make them lose 3-man core) and mut/rmn aren't getting any younger and are 2 players that are very hard to replace, both inside and outside the server. I think saw will do fine, this year was the best ever for PT scene and arroz/jerkz will make a big leap unheard since fox. This is extremely impactful. I think sAw will be fine, they'll go back to their highs and lows, like the last 5 years have always been and new talent will always have their eyes on sAw as the team to play for, it's the portuguese version of Astralis.

Lot of people here never read the articles, everyone saying they benched ewjerkz and arrozdoce. They benched them because jerkz and arroz WANTED to leave. If the players want to leave, saw need to bench them, beacuse if they dismiss them, they CANT make any money with them. Now imagine, they are benched (cause they want to leave) and now saw can make money with them!!! And since nobody understand this, story is one of the BEST players i know. Hes great with awp, hes great with rifle and pistol and he is second igl too (everbody says he will be the next portuguese igl). Since he is a great player saw were smart and keep him before some org buy him.
