The former Eternal Fire academy graduate returns to the Turkish organization from Sangal.

Calyx leaves Eternal Fire's lineup after more than three years

Samet "⁠jottAAA⁠" Köklü has replaced Buğra "⁠Calyx⁠" Arkın on Eternal Fire's roster heading into the 2025 season, the Turkish organization announced on Thursday.

The 22-year-old rejoins the organization he represented from 2022-2024 as part of their academy squad. He was loaned out to Sangal last March to continue his development and went on to impress in the lower echelons of play, averaging a 1.12 rating in 2024, as well as in their sole Big Event appearance at ESL Pro League Season 20.

Calyx makes way for the younger addition after a three-year service, during which Eternal Fire went from a borderline top-20 team to reaching new heights in 2024 with a run to the playoffs at PGL Major Copenhagen and a runners-up finish at ESL Pro League Season 20.

"Calyx holds a special place in all our hearts," a statement from the organization read. "Together with him, we achieved great victories on the global stage and created unforgettable moments."

The 26-year-old will remain a part of the organization while he explores opportunities "both within the club and in his career."

Eternal Fire's debut with jottAAA in the lineup is less than two weeks away. The team is due to participate in BLAST Bounty Season 1, which will begin with a 32-team online portion on January 14 before the top eight teams travel to Copenhagen for the finals.

Currently sitting in 14th place of Valve's Global standings, the team is also guaranteed to receive an invitation to IEM Katowice, kicking off with the Play-in stage on January 29.

xantares stated it clearly in his interview 5 days ago. He also said that since they could not determine the 5th Turkish player at that time, they added Issa to the team upon Woxic's request, but he did not feel comfortable with the fact that there were not 5 Turkish players at that time. So not possible anymore brother.

There is no blame, something is not right in the team and they've chosen this path. Calyx is an awesome firepower individually but in teamplay he can be a little bit off. There are plenty of examples of 'calyx doesnt trade or doesnt peek with his teammate'. I've been watching EF since the start and this is the best roster change ever.

How is that a role clash? Both are anchors. You just looked at jotta's stats and assumed he is an entry fragger. Both Calyx and Jotta anchoring same positions in their teams

As of today it could be a small downgrade, but the potential for Jota to improve the team long term is much higher than Calyx reaching a new peak in form at 26. Its a good move because it allows for potential to grow and improve and if it doesn’t work they can just get Calyx back… again…

Calyx was the reason why i started playing anchor in my matches, he is one of my favorites in the scene not gonna lie. As a EF supporter im happy for Jotta ofc but in general i just hope for Calyx that he can find a tier 1 team...

In terms of firepower, it's a better choice than Calyx. But when it comes to the moment of composure and clutchs, he will be left behind.

calyx have some mental-issues . He have talk problems, and can't talk during the game and he use only some words, and cant celebrate.. the team-spirit is always low because of him I feel always.... Jottaa and wicadia will be the new fire-power. I think this team can be reach top 5 I hope.

Oh Calyx, my raisin cake...

So exptected. It would literally be dumb from the org to not do it. I watched Calyx on Envy and he is a good player who can clutch and keep his calm, his aim is amazing. but I watched jotta too last year, he is an upgrade in every possible way. To keep calyx would be such a we cant leave our brother behind move, which I kinda expected from ef, ngl. Hopefully calyx will find a team, I think he loves the grind, his english is good and surely he does not think about leaving cs already.

The Space Soldiers core is no more. :((((( Calyx is underrated and he wasn't the problem. This is not an upgrade, this is a sidegrade at best. His stats for 2024 were not stellar but so were his roles: hltv.org/stats/players/8575/calyx?startD.. But maybe I'm wrong. We'll see.

Few years ago this would have been unthinkable, as we had the best year ever for TRCS. However, there are huge advantages with playing the max available firepower in the current CS2 meta. It's not like in the past, younger players nowadays are more than eager to learn and develop the tactical aspects of their game. Although Calyx is more experienced and stable, both have similar CT roles, which will make the transition easier. The main issue will be in the T side, as we had been too dependent on XANTARES to make a play, severely limiting our strategic possibilites, especially when Wicadia is not fired up. My guess: Wicadia will take lurking positions as he has great instincts in finding openings, jottAAA and XANTARES will be a great 1-2 punch in opening. PS: I think we will see Calyx in EF jersey again, when MAJ3R decide to retire and XANTARES takes the IGL mantle, probably in 1-2 years.
