PGL and BLAST to run concurrent events at the start of 2027

The Romanian and Danish tournament organizers are not giving each other any ground.

PGL ran a Major in a BLAST favorite, the Royal Arena, in 2024

BLAST will run a Bounty event from January 13-24 of 2027, nearly the same dates as a PGL Event also announced today.

The two tournament organizers are following Valve guidelines that stipulate event announcements to come 24 months in advance, for those taking place in and after 2027.

But, with a packed schedule, it appears a compromise was unable to be found and now the two events will run concurrently.

See all announced events in the calendar widget here

The big three organizers of ESL, PGL, and BLAST managed to avoid any direct clashes in 2025 but two PGL events — Astana and Belgrade — end the day before teams will be due to travel to IEM Dallas and Chengdu, putting teams wanting to play both in a difficult position.

For the start of 2027, PGL have taken aim at the partially online BLAST Bounty rather than ESL's prestigious IEM events, as they jostle for space in the open circuit.

like 95% of their failure was purely due to timing. corona doomed anything planned around 2020.

worth to mention that flashpoint also made some terrible decisions about the anonymo - nip game

they made anonymo to replay match they actually won, because device (he was playing for nip that time) told admins that he had 30-40% packet loss during the game, while proofs werent provided to public, and nip won a rematch

that also means that teams who are struggling against some specific teams can get MUCH easier tournaments, which will undermine their prestige. for example if spirit won world final simply because g2 didn't attend it would mean so little compared to winning when every good team is present

I would honestly like to see a bigger gap in prestige between blast, pgl and IEM events to the majors, cologne and kato. Would be so much more hype.

This will raise the prestige of winning the major as well, as it seems to be one of the few events all top teams will attend.

Teams outside of the top 32 will actually get to participate in relevant events. Which means a better ranking.

A TO cant just try to say “were taking these dates” without something concrete in place. Helps teams plan travel/practice schedules as well.

It's good for orgs to have the schedule so they plan out everything in advance No more last second invites and missed majors because of visa issues

Welp, that's gonna make both of those events mean much less, unless all the top teams agree to go to the same one. In which case the other one will end up being a total mickey mouse tournament.

This is just like ESL when they were the top dog and would make events at the same time of any lower TO. One of the downsides to valve having no interference
