New HEROIC qualify for Bounty Finals over Liquid; tN1R sidelined by visa issues

After getting their previous core bought out and scrambling for replacements at the final hour, HEROIC have surprised with their new lineup.

After his long stint on the sidelines, SunPayus had a quiet first series but then took over the game against Liquid

Update 16:06 : tN1R to miss Copenhagen

"There's a problem with the visa, there's no way to get it earlier," the Belarussian said on Telegram. "So see you in Katowice."

HEROIC headed into the new season on shaky ground. After their previous lineup was picked apart, they were forced to build around a second-tier Sangal core, and things went from bad to worse when the organization ran into last-minute issues with the signing of Linus "nilo" Bergman.

But despite their off-season struggles, the new HEROIC have outperformed expectations at the season opener. With surprise wins over 3DMAX and Liquid, the ragtag team traversed the online portion of BLAST Bounty to qualify for the Finals.

Andrey "tN1R" Tatarinovich, who was added to the BLAST roster at the final hour to take nilo's place, spearheaded their opening victory against the Frenchmen with a 30-bomb in overtime on Ancient.

A key piece to the new team, Álvaro "SunPayus" García, also found his footing after a long stint on the sidelines on Falcons' bench. After a quiet first series, the Spaniard took over in another close match against Liquid with a 1.32-performance.

Everyone else contributed key moments as HEROIC recovered from a close opening map loss on Mirage, beating Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken and company on two of their favorite maps, Anubis and Ancient.

Following their surprise run, Eetu "sAw" Saha's new lineup will have their first test on LAN next week when they travel to Copenhagen to compete at the Finals alongside seven other teams that will qualify over the course of the weekend.

Meanwhile, Liquid's new season with Guy "NertZ" Iluz has gotten off to a shaky start. They're set to travel to Poland next for IEM Katowice, where they're set to rematch HEROIC in the opening round of the Play-in on January 29.

Valve can't do a shit here, it's just a law. Game developer probably won't change it. Imo, possibility to get temporary visa, just to play 1 tournament, would have been great solution

Yeah man, lets encourage bribes and political perturbance, that will help Valve/gov interactions* get better. Belarus and Rusia, thus their citizens, are not accepted in the eu/usa area anymore. Look up for passport power belarus. You will understand better. He’s just a victim to political decisions, sadly.

I don’t think valve is the type of company to lobby politicians. They have nothing to gain. A cigarette company on the other hand has SO much to gain regulation wise by lobbying. Or oil or big pharma or healthcare companies. Administrations and their policies directly influence their income. Valve just prints money by releasing skins and owning steam

Who makes LAN events a couple days after online qualifires? How are people supposed to get visas?

Apply before the event starts in hopes of qualifying? I agree its still idiotic. We've seen too many times, even at majors, where visa issues hinders a teams chances with the need for subs.

I understand your point of view, but it wouldn't be very expensive to get visas just in case you pass the round, at the same time I don't know about visas so what could be wrong?

Afaik the cost isn't much for most countries. It's just the length of time and burocracy. And depending on the country you are from, your passport may make it easier to enter certain countries than others. I guess because it's a recent transfer, and Belarusian passports aren't powerful, he can't make it.

You know sometimes kills doesnt mean someone is better, someone can do more important kills, clutches or even winning a 1vs1 =) I didnt watch that Liquid match but I saw how he played against 3DMAX and he is something extra.
