Kat: "I'm really proud even though the second map wasn't our best at all"

Imperial continued to show they can compete against some of the world's best teams as they nearly took a map off FURIA in their IEM Katowice opener.

Imperial are keeping their heads held high after another competitive affair against a top team

After being thrown into the deep end with some unexpected invites to the tier-one circuit off the back of their success in the women's scene, Imperial Valkyries continue to surprise against the odds.

The three-time Women's Team of the Year impressed many in their competitive affair against Natus Vincere in the BLAST Bounty earlier this month. Now at IEM Katowice, they came within one round from taking a map off FURIA in their opening match despite their in-game leader, Victoria "tory" Kazieva, missing the tournament due to visa issues.

Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo heaped praise on Imperial Valkyries after the match. "It really felt like we should have lost [Mirage]," he admitted. Imperial Valkyries recovered a 3-11 deficit with a superb CT side and had the game in their hands, but the Brazilians overturned a 4v5 situation in the final round of regulation before locking it down in overtime.

FalleN after FURIA beat Imperial fe: "It really felt like we should have lost [Mirage]"

In an interview with HLTV, Katarína "Kat" Vašková shared FalleN's sentiment. "We had it, we literally had it," she said. "There were some rounds where there was miscommunication, a bit stressed situations, of course the pressure and everything."

It was a missed opportunity, one that Imperial Valkyries came to regret after the second map was far from as competitive, with FURIA dominating Dust2 13-1 to win the series. Train would have been the decider, a map that FURIA have yet to play in an official match.

"We were really happy that we even got to overtime, everything that we have done. But after the second map, I'm having the feeling that we actually could have won it," she went on.

Imperial's coach, bubble, had to step in after tory was sidelined by visa issues

Not having their in-game leader by their side has made the challenging task all the more difficult for Imperial Valkyries. "It's very different without tory. bubble is not the same. We are obviously playing with tory all the time and she has a big voice," Kat explained.

"It's just different than other players, I can't explain, she just talks a lot (laughs), which helps a lot. Now we have to step up, everyone, with comms, which is also hard, but we're trying our best. It's a missed opportunity for her not being here, which is just unfortunate."

Despite the loss, Imperial Valkyries are holding their heads high. They look to make the best out of the situation as they drop to the lower bracket to face off against BIG in an elimination series, in another opportunity to keep showing that they can compete against the best.

"Overall I'm [still] really proud even though our second map wasn't the best at all," Kat said. "Winning the first map would have been huge for us, but I think we're just going to learn from it more and more, as we did from the NAVI game."

How do you figure? Bubble was the worst player in the server on Mirage and they still took it to OT. There's no way tory would have been "way worse".

You're fulfilling every negative Turkish stereotype. Bubble wasn't even calling dumbass. And the calls were nothing special anyway, there's no reason tory wouldn't have been able to replicate them or even come up with something better. Imagine defending BOT bubble simply because he's a male - dude was complete ass on that map.

> ok zaaz called and if tory were there she would call way worse(zaaz is simple better) Makes zero sense, obviously the IGL of the team would call better than a player who isn't the IGL. Use your brain. > only stereotype you would know about are mexicans. The negative stereotype is that Turkish men are misogynist and closed minded, I have no idea what Mexicans have to do with anything. > Btw calling bubble bot who played the most maps ever on csgo is an american level cs ignorance lmao The year is 2025 dude. What he did a decade ago as a player isn't relevant, current year bubble is a BOT. But it makes sense that you're a bubble fan, that would partially explain your braindead takes on this topic.

im saying this article feels really condescending. celebrating almost winning a map against a t2 team before then getting 13-1'd? furia choked an 11-3 lead where a BR team that actually has players who care like pain wouldnt have and we wouldnt be reading anything about this match xd

They should not be ashamed of low expectations When you aren’t consistently facing the higher tier of opponents or practicing vs them, you feel inferior and are inferior because you can only be as good as those you practice against. If imperial fe practiced vs NaVi for 20 games they would be better than they are now

Bro, how does it not apply to any other ESEA main team? Why does nobody use this excuse for, say, Insilio? Oh, we're only bad because T1 teams refuse to practice with us because they think we're worse than them. Are you suggesting a quota to pracc team Spirit? Like, force them to train with any team that wants to? They will start facing higher tier of opponents when they'll get better than their ESEA Main opponents. The path is literally a straight line: win ESEA Main -> win ESL Challenger boom you get in pro league and you're considered a good team now

Insilio and the rest of cct participants are known for throwing. At least fe scene has a decency not to throw but rather just lack the skill. T3 is full of throwers with an insane skill ceiling

Sad to see that bubble is not a upgrade. GG for Imperial, solid game on Mirage. On d2 Kat went 0-10 for the largest part of the ct side, you could see that tory is definitely needed for success. Next is BIG, let's see how it goes!

i cheer for them but im afraid its gonna be like that in future months: "im proud, we did good but unlucky bla bla" and they gonna end the year with 0 wins in serious matches, too much hype currently but still i cheer for them

100% agree. I really want them to succeed, but I'm also going to be realistic. They've shown that they can play, but until they start winning, the margin for error slowly closes more and more until the women and men's scene is back to being separated. I was hopeful for Dust II after Mirage, but I'm not going to be huffing copium and say that a 13-1 loss isn't at least a little bit rough. Looking forward to seeing them play in the future, hope they can win.

I would say it is matter of preparation. There are ton of demos of Navi and Furia or other tier 1 teams easily available. When it comes to easea main teams, not so much. And most likely they prepare much harder for these events than esea main
