FaZe eliminate G2 from Katowice

Eternal Fire stand between karrigan's troops and the Spodek.

FaZe are gathering steam with EliGE

FaZe have defeated G2 in the Group A lower bracket semi-final with a 2-1 scoreline (16-13 Ancient, 10-13 Inferno, 13-8 Nuke) to stay alive at IEM Katowice and send Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski's troops crashing out from the tournament.

"We played a little bit worse than we did yesterday, their game plan was just to disrupt us completely," Finn "karrigan" Andersen said in a post-match interview.

FaZe are now on a collision course with Eternal Fire for a playoff spot, while G2 exit the tournament in the group stage.

The series started on Ancient, where G2 secured overtime from 8-12 down but couldn't get the victory after a couple of missed Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov shots cost them in a 13-16 loss.

Inferno was up next, where G2 once again fought back, this time from 4-8. Their CT side was imperious, however, and they closed out a 13-10 victory after four 1v1 clutches throughout the second half.

Nuke was the decider, and the map delivered in spades. The first half ended 6-6 before G2 won their second pistol of the match to seemingly get the upper hand. FaZe came out on top after the force-buy wars, though, which helped them secure a 13-8 victory, as did David "frozen" Čerňanský's 1.65-rated performance.

"I could see him enjoying playing the game, because previously it was a little bit harder," karrigan said about the Slovak.

FaZe finding their feet with EliGE

FaZe had a rough start to life with Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski at BLAST Bounty, where they were eliminated by paiN in the Ro16, but their Katowice performances are looking much better.

They took Vitality to the brink and overcame G2 in a spirited performance and are now one win away from the Spodek.

frozen and Håvard "rain" Nygaard seem to be taking to their new roles like ducks to water and are the team's highest-rated players at the event, with EliGE a close third. Despite that, though, karrigan said the American rifler still needs to learn "to not be the main voice on the CT side."

G2's post-NiKo era off to rough start

On the other side of the server, this is a rough end to the tournament for G2. While the team reached the semi-final of BLAST Bounty, albeit by only facing B8, BIG, and BetBoom with two stand-ins, something is not quite working in the G2 camp.

Losing a vocal player like Nikola "NiKo" Kovač is certainly having it's effect, with Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač taking over CT-side calling according to Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas, while Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa and m0NESY are not finding the individual peaks of 2024 as of yet.

"We showed very good CS, but we just couldn't close the rounds. You need to give respect to FaZe because they took the win from us," said a disappointed TaZ in a post-match interview.

"When you lose a leading voice, you need to go on the road, it's not going [to fix itself] just by snapping fingers."

Due to skipping PGL Cluj-Napoca, G2 now have over a month before their next outing at ESL Pro League S21.

If Faze can push past EF in a dominant fashion, they could easily be contending to win this event. Faze up

"in a dominant fashion" won't happen. Faze winning = close quadruple overtimes with big individual plays and clutches content team, most entertaining team. Still contending for the trophy tho

yeah couldnt remember the last time FaZe winning anyone in a dominant fashion, it's either crazy comeback or choking big lead to make the game unnecessarily detrimental for heart health

Shame that G2 stars did not show up. Ye, snax lost third map, but he was more than decent first two (unlike some stars). Especially Ancient was really solid from him. That said, he should be replaced while ago, T1 is clearly above his firepower level. He can be decent IGL in some T2/3 team quite likely. Under 60 adr is really no improvement compared to hooxi, which is kinda insane.

Well it's not that big arena games outweigh elimination games. It's that big arena games ARE elimination games + the crowd and increased pressure from typical elimination games (generally, cuz there are maybe exceptions like an rmr elimination game holding more value to the org cuz $$$ over a big arena match, maybe causing the rmr match to have higher pressure)

You are wrong because g2 just lost an elimination game But according to nerocs it doesnt count as a big arena game because there was no crowds and it was group stage.

No shit dude because big arena games are ALWAYS elimination games + there's the crowd and extra nerves. So no , YOURE wrong, and the fact you can't see that despite English being your native tongue is embarrassing. Why should normal elimination games be rated higher than big arena matches which are ALSO elimination games? BIG ARENA MATCHES ARE ELIMINATION GAMES DUMMY They're elimination games with EVEN MORE pressure than an elimination game without a crowd. The fact that you can't comprehend the basic premise of Elimination game + crowd > elimination game - crowd Is truly mind boggling. Its obvious on face value and doesn't require deep thinking. Like I would get it if "big arena matches" counted today's matches for example. Where yes its Lan and no longer The play in, but big arena matches is specifically referring to once you're in playoffs , aka once the tournament is single Elim

If that were true, then it would mean he isn’t a top player. Top players try to win every game, especially when they’re being paid 30k per month.

In fairness this exact criticism must be aimed towards the ENTIRETY of the faze roster since what... since when karrigans rejoined? The online period is a bit at fault there in fairness but it's carried on since after the online period so even if it was the catalyst for their selective motivation, it's not the current cause.

What an entertaining, close match, as always between these two teams! It is very good to see the progress already with the integration of EliGE into FaZe. So far the potential is looking promising and they are already showing some great signs. Frozen looks more comfortable, Elige is providing the long needed aggression and menacing multifragging potential, and karrigan is rolling back the years with his fragging.

Despite that, though, karrigan said the American rifler still needs to learn "to not be the main voice on the CT side." sounds a bit weird to hear that, never heard anyone say that a teammate has to be "more quiet" or something like that

Not that weird. He is used to being the CT-side caller, and now he's not. Probably slipped a few times.

Meh karrigan is just saying "hey our entire ct system is based around people calling their own plays (generally speaking minus some mid rounding and a few spawn ideas) Don't try to be the secondary caller on ct side like you were in previous teams , just call your own plays and ask for support if needed"
