Brollan: "I always wanted to be an IGL, but it came sooner than I was expecting"

The Swede says his teammates were really excited for him to start calling.

MOUZ made the shock decision to bench Kamil "siuhy" Szkaradek after just one game in 2025, with Lotan "Spinx" Giladi coming in to replace their IGL. That meant Ludvig "Brollan" Brolin had to take up calling, and the Swede says he is enjoying the trust put in him.

"The coach and the staff all trusted me and said I'm up to it, and I got a lot of trust from the players as well," he told HLTV after MOUZ qualified for the PGL Cluj-Napoca playoffs.

Brollan also talked about his plan to become an in-game leader at some point in his career, Dennis "sycrone" Nielsen's guidance, and revealed the hardest thing about being an IGL.

You made the playoffs right at the end, but it wasn't exactly easy. How do you look back at your first group stage as an IGL of your full team?

It was really fun, I'll start with that. It was frustrating in some moments, of course, that we didn't manage to pull off both in the Falcons and the FaZe games. But overall, it was nice to try and get some experience. For example, when we played FaZe, they made a comeback. You have some important calls you need to make, and then you feel the pressure on these things.

It was a good experience overall and I really enjoyed it. Obviously, when you're an IGL, you need to sacrifice the time to improve as much as possible. We're mid-season, and I need to work harder than before, basically. It's exhausting, but at the same time, I like it a lot.

Did you come into this expecting a certain result, or is it just about getting some experience and matches as an IGL under your belt?

You want to win as much as you can, but in the end, I think the experience is more important for now. We are still trying to test the waters at the moment, and we'll see how it goes, but I think we're playing well. We just need to close out some matches. For example against Falcons, I think we threw a little bit on the Mirage second map, and they managed to come back and win the third map, and the same right now with Virtus.pro.

I felt we had it a little bit under control on Inferno, and then they managed to come back into the map. We just need to have our foot on the gas all the time and try to improve more on that, but overall, I think it was just a good experience. Now we're in the playoffs, and everything from now on is just a bonus because we obviously want to win, but we don't have a set goal at the moment, especially for this tournament.

Talking about your IGL move; was it something that you contemplated for a while before committing, something that you thought could happen at some point in your career?

Yeah, I always wanted to be an IGL in the future, especially maybe for the Swedish teams when I quit the international teams, but it came sooner than I was expecting. The coach and the staff all trusted me and said I'm up to it, and I got a lot of trust from the players as well, and they were really excited for me to start calling.

It helps me a lot on the road to actually improve and be more trusted in these things. I need more experience, but of course, I need more trust from the players. We're working on it, and you can't get 100% trust from the team from day one.

Do you see yourself staying in the role? Because we saw a few players, for example device, IGL for a couple of months, then stopped. Is this your role now?

It's hard to say. Obviously, I want to improve in the IGL role. I've been in the space creator role first of all, and then I went to MOUZ and became a lurker, and now I'm an IGL. I just don't want to look too much ahead of it, I don't want to think I'm not an IGL in one year, for example. I just want to improve what I'm doing right now and see how it goes.

I know you don't have a lot of experience yet, but what would you say is the hardest thing to get used to when becoming the IGL?

Trying to focus a little bit on the individual level. I think my teammates are doing so well that I don't need to carry them sometimes, but I think this is maybe the hardest one, to put more time into the individual form. But if I'm talking in-game, it's maybe a little bit hard to manage everyone in two words, basically.

I get a lot of help from sycrone, and he has given me some tips that are really easy to think about, and the same with my mental coach. I just need to try to improve as a leader as well, but I get a lot of trust from the team.

I think you're exaggerating a bit. hltv.org/matches/2379346/mouz-vs-faze-pg.. Faze nearly lost their own map pick; 13-11 is pretty close. The second map was kinda of a beatdown for MOUZ, but Faze isn't a bad team. I'd say give Brollan some time, and he'll be benched if things turn for worse. It can't go as bad as Electronic, I hope.

hltv.org/matches/2375399/complexity-vs-m.. Siuhy 5 t side round against COL. A FRAUD ?!?!?!? but siuhy is the best igl ever. Karrigan, Aleksib, chopper and apex are all scared of losing their job.

bro had to go take one game to discredit brollan' debut as an igl. So, I took one like him. It calls cherry picking for a reason. I don't agree with siuhy removal, but stop the glazing a bit. Brollan play a total of 2 events and people like to judge him for no reason. One with a stand-in. NAF is overrated atm and twistz suck as an igl. Siuhy is a great/good igl, but mouz had a choking problem and show weaknesses.

I finished highschool, and I have no issue with Brollan, but it’s absolutely clear to me that letting Siuhy go, and doing it twice is a huge mistake. MOUZ is literally digging its own grave, top20 will be their best soon. I hope I’m wrong.”

I think when you consider everything, the results until now are Not that bad. One bad map against faze and one bad map against falcons, two teams, that should be ahead of mouz at the moment and even then you need to win ancient against faze and 2:0 against falcons. Making the Playoffs and even with a good Chance for the Semis in first Real tournament is good i think. You are Not a hater so you dont count for my post.😃

falcons is ass bro MOUZ should not be losing to them, FaZe ill give them a pass but with siuhy they were finally starting to beat FaZe more consistently and felt like the matchup was very even. Now it just looks like FaZe is going to beat them more often then not again simply because karrigan will outcall brollan. Not saying the debut is going horribly, but the siuhy roster was about to hit peak form, you could see them improving tournament after tournament. The move just feels like a complete halting of the momentum they were building, now there is new roles, playstyle overlaps between spinx and jimpphat, brollan is new igl, just a lot of hurdles they need to overcome that were not there before. Yes, there were internal problems in the team and it led to siuhy being kicked, but I would rather see the players (who have been playing together for a few years now between NXT and the main mouz roster) sort this out like adults and talk to each other.

Siuhy roster, ****Mouz roster, you mean. Like jimi didn't bail them out of many situations. 1.10 as an anchor. And Falcons is ass. Yeah, heroic core wasn't top7/8 last year and they don't have niko. Falcons is new, but not that ass.

But you were always a better player on rifle so I don't think it's a good idea to switch now and siuhy was the best for that role to begin with so no MOUZ made a big mistake clearly ^^,

It was not a tactical decision, but an internal problem that caused the separation. Can't label that a "mistake "

Apex didn’t start as an igl, neither did karrigan. Most igls didn’t start their career as an igl yet if nobody tries to take that role up there wouldn’t be any igls…. You don’t have to start your career as an igl like siuhy or kyxstan to be good at it, you can learn how to do it as many players have proven over the years

Brollan was going to be benched for spinx originally anyway. It's up to him to prove himself as an IGL they can rely upon or get benched after Austin for a real IGL.

Unfortunately after jimis comments I don't see a world where siuhy comes back with this current iteration of mouz. However maybe if jimi leaves you can get spinx in his roles and siuhy back? I feel like it won't be the same though. 100% more players agreed as mouz wouldn't bench siuhy just cause jimi wanted a different calling styles.

lmao this is literally said by every rifler who became igl who then later changed their tune after realising how difficult it is to be a TRUE igl off the top of my head i can remember device, electronic and yekindar probably later on twistzz and brollan are gonna come to terms with how difficult and tiring it is then get a real igl

Yekindar wanted to keep igling, elec is still igling and was the head of 3 of the best cos teams in the world, and device situation is not even similar to the other 2 examples, and no matter who igls this astralis roster is doomed. So you need to use context, many players did successfully changed to igl from a “regular” rifler but unfortunately this forum can only remember the players who failed
