Ganginho handed three-year ban by ESIC over corruption and betting violations

The former Ukrainian player was found to have placed a large number of bets, including on matches involving his team.

The Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) has announced that it has issued a three-year ban to former Sangal and TNL player Ilya "Ganginho" Chernychenko following an extensive investigation into corruption and betting-related violations.

In a press release, the esports watchdog explained that it launched an investigation after receiving a credible report via its affiliate network.

ESIC obtained evidence of 390 Counter-Strike bets placed via accounts directly tied to Ganginho through shared IP addresses, device identifiers and other unique digital markers. The Ukrainian's betting activity included "significant bets" on matches involving TNL, which he represented between May and October 2024.

"This conduct resulted in winnings totalling approximately $20,000," ESIC added.

In a post on X in October, Ganginho announced his retirement from gaming. "It was a great time that gave me a lot of great people," he wrote. "But life is so fast that you can't dwell on one thing and you need to be able to take the next step."

Having committed multiple breaches of ESIC's Anti-Corruption Code and Code of Conduct, including misuse of inside information and match manipulation, Ganginho has been banned for three years, retroactive to 6 December 2024.

During this period, he is unable to participate in events partnered with ESIC in any official capacity, "including as a player, coach, manager, or broadcaster," the watchdog noted.

Would be nice if he has to give money back which can be used to charity or smth like that. This might be another gokushima case, if ban would be lifelong everytime some player is proved guilty in betting services CS might take at least some protection against cases like these.

I mean, retiring because you received notice that you are being investigated is an option. Also the text is written in the way that only TNL matches had proof, who knows if he was up to it in Sangal, for example.

That's an issue for sure. Once a fixer always a fixer, I mean they said he made 20k MINIMUM, I'd expect him to make a lot more than that from years of fixing. Especially in bigger and better teams than TNL. Although he probably retired due to the investigation, It doesn't mean anything because 100% he made more, it's no secret that a lot of fixers use crypto to not be tracked.

How bad do you have to be at matchfix to make only 20k in 3 years? And how bad do you have to be to get caught lmao It takes virtually 0 effort to arrange fake credentials for KYC, or even straight up use a bookie without one, which would also likely not have any affiliation with ESIC. Back in the day all the pros just used fake accounts on 5etop to spam dragon lores 2 mins before the match start, donate winnings to themselves as “fans”. There’s still at least half a dozen options all of which involve no risk of getting traced On the side note, who even gives a shit about this tier5 guy? Esic will forever be a joke for blindly ignoring all the daily matchfix by far more prevalent teams

20k on the accounts that they were able to tie to him, he could tip other gamblers for a share (and probably did) and then you multiply this by 10 at the very least + accounts with which he was more careful

he wasn't banned for matchfixing tho, he was banned for placing bets, it's not even clear if he ever bet on his own matches, only that he bet on the team he represented at some point I'm not defending the guy or saying he didn't matchfix, just saying that's why the ban seems light, because ESIC probably couldn't prove he matchfixed it looks to me like there's a group of players matchfixing and they bet on each others matches and profit from it, so they don't get caught for matchfixing

Esic can only ban if there is clear evidence, I guess that’s why almost no one gets banned for matchfixing or betting. They will never get caught if they are smart enough to hide their traces. I wonder how many matchfixers there are currently in tier 2
