Spirit Academy upset BetBoom, BC.Game eliminated on PGL Bucharest EU qualifier day two

Roler Coaster, a mix-team featuring Perfecto and YEKINDAR, also got knocked out.

kyousuke.

The second day of the 32-team PGL Bucharest Europe closed qualifier has concluded with a handful of notable results, including the elimination of BC.Game and trips to the lower bracket for fnatic and BIG.

One spot at the Romanian event is up for grabs in the qualifier, which is now halfway through its double-elimination, all-best-of-three group stage.

The winning team from each group will advance to the four-team playoffs, which will culminate with a best-of-five grand final.

With plenty of matches still to go, we've put together a quick list of a few notable results after two days of play:

Highlights

Ninjas in Pyjamas beat fnatic 2-1 to score some much-needed VRS points and are through to the Group C upper bracket final. A 121.3 ADR, 1.79-rated effort from Benjamin "blameF" Bremer — 0.99 above his closest teammate — wasn't enough to make the difference for his side on the Ancient decider.

Spirit Academy reached the upper bracket final of Group D after impressive wins over Sashi and BetBoom, trading 13-11 maps against the latter before winning the Anubis decider in double overtime. Maxim "kyousuke" Lukin, enough said.

Eliminations

NAVI Junior ended the run of Roler Coaster, a mix-team featuring Ilya "Perfecto" Zalutskiy, Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis, and Artem "ArtFr0st" Kharitonov, in the lower bracket of Group A.

BC.Game were eliminated by ENCE, who came back from a map down to win the Anubis decider in overtime. The teams had been knocked down to the lower bracket following losses to OG and Passion UA in their openers.

Partizan reverse-swept Metizport in Group C to consign the Swedes to a last-place finish.

Other notable results

OG are in the upper bracket final of Group A after scraping past ENCE in their opener and beating Passion UA 2-0.

GUN5 overcame Monte 2-1 and were a map up over HEROIC after stealing their Mirage pick in Group B, but couldn't complete the upset after Linus "LNZ" Holtäng's side came back with a vengeance with 10-2 halves on Ancient and Nuke.

BIG lost to SINNERS in Group A and will play for their tournament lives against ENCE in the lower bracket.

Sad days when a NIP vs Fnatic match is just a match. From multiple major final rivals to where we are today. A good reminder to every org, that time is unforgiving.

Having a 32 team closed qualifier with only one spot on offer is so weird, but it's kinda cool, there are so many teams that need to qualify for an event like this, that really need this opportunity, BIG, ENCE, fnatic, NIP, OG, and more. I have a feeling that it's not going to be any of those 'big' name teams to qualify, I have a feeling that it's gonna be a team like Spirit Academy to win it, I think they're my favourites even, and I'd love to see them at a LAN like this since Spirit rejected an invite, would be cool ngl.

it's weird but in a world of VRS, any point make a difference, and this CQ is a great opportunity to grab some

Yeah I didn't even think about the fact that even teams who don't qualify but come close will get some points for winning some games, that's a good point actually.
