Groups drawn for PGL Astana EU closed qualifier

The team who grabs the single PGL Astana spot on offer will have to play a minimum of six series to do so.

BetBoom are the highest-ranked team set to participate in the rigorous 32-team qualifier

The mammoth 32-team Europe closed qualifier for PGL Astana is set to kick off March 27, and teams now know what awaits them as they all battle for a single PGL Astana berth.

Four groups of eight teams will play out double-elimination Bo3 groups, with the top team in each group heading to a single-elimination playoff bracket.

You can check out the full draw on the event page, but there are a few highlight matchups coming in the opening matches.

Group A will see ENCE take on PARIVISION, pitting the No.35 HLTV-ranked team with the No. 33 in the most stacked matchup.

Over in group C, a recently reinvigorated OG side will face off against Monte, the former having recently taken the CCT Season 2 Europe Series 20 title.

Finally, Group D will play host to Ninjas in Pyjamas's bout with Passion UA, as the former seek to dispel their recent woes and the latter try to rise to the occasion without star AWPer Dmytro "⁠jambo⁠" Semera.

Speaking of jambo, the AWPer who took the Perfect World Shanghai Major cycle by storm is set to play one of his first games in the fnatic jersey in this qualifier, as his new team take on AMKAL.

bloodbath to scrape a few points in an attempt to make the major. Why PGL has this system setup only silvui knows. So overkill tho I guess gives teams a chance to try to farm points/matches.

Fr, they need to invite less teams through VRS and have at least 1 spot for each group on these. 4 spots would be fair IMO.

IDK 4 seems a bit excessive but 2-3 2 at least if you make the Final from 32 that should be enough to qualify really.

Maybe that's one of the reasons Valve made it so tier-1 events are 20 teams minimum from now on instead of 16. Nothing stops TOs from inviting top 16 and have 1 spot for each region like PGL does now though

It's much better to display the groups with the team names. The matches are fine, but it's not easy to understand which teams are in each group, especially with unfamiliar or too many mix teams..
