Vitality lost both pistols but the score is tied — that's the sign of a team in control with equal machinery. With star man ZywOo 17-8, too, the pressure is on Brollan to come up with an inspired call. Timeout called.

"Spinx was very vocal outside [after map one]," sycrone tells BanKs between maps. "Usually for this group with his experience, he keeps the guys calm, but on this map he took it into his own hands. But for us to win everyone needs to step up.

"Beating EF on Dust2 [in the semi-final] gives us confidence, it was close last time on it versus Vitality, but we're still not a great Dust2 team and we need to be at our best to win this."

A 1.68 rating (2.45 on T side) puts Mirage in 4th in Lotan "⁠Spinx⁠" Giladi's playoff history, and what a time to do it:

MOUZ go for the Mirage pick, where Vitality have shown a bit of weakness compared to the rest of their impenetrable pool — in that they win in close games, rather than stomps.

Problem is that MOUZ only have a 33% win-rate on it themselves. Says a lot about this matchup, that pick.

Speaking to BanKs on stream, on what's hard about playing Vitality: "It's probably that they have five stars. Like us I think, five really good players, but they have ropz and ZywOo - best players in the world, obviously.

"It's a little bit difficult if they're really sharp. If you make small mistakes their players can run you over, they play really well and really sharp. In case they don't play the best team CS they can win on individuals. Grand final, we have to match them in sharpness."

The first place MOUZ can look to garner some type of edge to help them grab an upset against Vitality in the map veto. So, how might MOUZ go about it?

On the surface, things don't make for pleasant reading for MOUZ fans. MOUZ will lose their best map, Ancient, off the bat, as Vitality perma-ban it.

One option would be to try and punish-pick Vitality's worst map, Anubis. The problem? MOUZ perma-ban that map, and it would be an insane curveball for them to crack it out in this grand final.

The one thing MOUZ could have going for them is that they are proficient on Nuke, and Vitality have seemed mortal on that map over the past couple of weeks, losing it to The MongolZ at EPL and in the semi-final against Spirit at BLAST Lisbon. Except Vitality battered MOUZ on Nuke in the grand final of EPL. Oh dear.

There is, perhaps, a wrench that MOUZ could try and throw into the works: an early Train pick. Both teams sport a 100% winrate on the map, but throwing in a new map that neither team has played many officials on could provide the variance MOUZ need to steal an early map and generate some momentum in the series.

MOUZ fans, look away now. These two teams have played each other three teams in the last few weeks, and the record does bode well for MOUZ.

Vitality are sporting a 7-0 map winrate, a 3-0 series winrate, and won a best-of-five final against MOUZ at EPL. They are also more experienced than MOUZ in this type of setting, and seem to have the advantage in individual skill man-for-man.

Perhaps the one bright spot for MOUZ is that they do seem to be working Vitality out slowly. At EPL, MOUZ were battered on four of the five maps these two teams contested, and only managed nine rounds on the map that was somewhat close. Here in Lisbon, MOUZ suffered two narrow 11-13 losses to Vitality in the group final, showing things are moving in the right direction for MOUZ.

William "⁠mezii⁠" Merriman told HLTV after beating Spirit that Vitality are well aware that MOUZ are going to be keen to take revenge in this final, and that they have the benefit of many demos to prepare with. He did conclude, however, that Vitality "feel comfortable" against MOUZ.

Meanwhile, earlier in the tournament Shahar "⁠flameZ⁠" Shushan was keen to point out that the fact that Vitality are able to win ugly is a boon for the team.

Ádám "⁠torzsi⁠" Torzsás reckons that MOUZ had their chances against Vitality in the grand final at EPL, and he is relishing the chance to face them again.

Dennis "⁠sycrone⁠" Nielsen told HLTV that bouncing back from such a loss was difficult, and that he felt his team were "a few levels behind" Vitality at EPL. He did, however, feel that Brollan will have benefitted from the experience.
