GamerLegion secure first playoffs of 2025

REZ led the way to a convincing win over Virtus.pro as GamerLegion cruised through to the bracket stage.

REZ dominated Ancient with a 1.88 rating and seven opening kills

GamerLegion beat Virtus.pro 2-0 to secure the third win at PGL Bucharest and ensure a spot in the playoffs, joining G2 and 3DMAX in the bracket stage.

The qualification marks the organization's first playoffs appearance in 2025, one that was a long time coming after they just narrowly missed out at IEM Katowice and ESL Pro League with 7th-8th and 9th-11th finishes.

This time around, it was a relatively smooth going. Following an opening loss to G2, the biggest resistance to GamerLegion came from an underdog Legacy squad, while Falcons and Virtus.pro fell by the wayside in one-sided affairs.

GamerLegion continue to show results beyond their experience

GamerLegion have been a consistent competitor ever since they brought on Fredrik "REZ" Sterner at the beginning of the year.

The Swede's addition has given some extra firepower and experience to the young squad, and that was apparent in the Ancient opener, where his Deagle work in a crucial round four halfbuy win and consistent openings as the match went on made all the difference.

Sometimes the youth and inexperience of his teammates comes on display in clutch moments, but GamerLegion make up for it in spades in mid-round decisions and teamplay. Erik "ztr" Gustafsson called circles around Virtus.pro on Ancient, while on Mirage their well-drilled retakes spearheaded a flawless seven-round run on the CT side.

electroNic tallies one of his career-worst maps

Denis "electroNic" Sharipov didn't get off to the best of starts on Ancient and was getting increasingly frustrated as the match progressed, head in hands, slamming the desk.

While that isn't unusual for the hot-blooded Virtus.pro in-game leader, his performance that followed on Mirage was. He went 4-19 in the 8-13 loss to end up on a 0.28 rating, the third-lowest-rated map in his career. After a solid first map Timur "FL4MUS" Marev also pulled a disappearance act with a 5-18 K-D on Mirage.

The fact that his rage looks to be aimed at teammates as well is very telling. At least Hallzerk is raging at himself

VP really have a mental issue. They should not be that bad and inconsistent Well played to GL tho, showing good things lately. Maybe that's the event when they step up

If Electronic can’t control himself, then how is he supposed to control a whole team? …. He even brainwashed flamus into playing the whole game in a different way. Anyway: R EZ!
