bLitz's side gave up immense leads on the first two maps and barely scraped a victory on the Inferno decider.
The MongolZ have survived an intense battle against Complexity in their IEM Melbourne opener after edging out a 2-1 victory (11-13 Anubis, 16-13 Ancient, 13-10 Inferno).
It was a brawl of a series, appropriately described by Michael "Grim" Wince during a listen-in as a "clown fiesta," with The MongolZ losing Anubis after squandering an 11-5 lead and needing overtime to close out Ancient despite leading 11-2.
Complexity's Anubis comeback included a crucial victory at 11-11, where Garidmagnai "bLitz" Byambasuren's mouse died mid-round, resulting in The MongolZ playing with a man disadvantage in arguably the most crucial round of the map.
Fired up from their tough loss on Anubis, The MongolZ quickly put together a dominant 11-2 lead on their own pick of Ancient. Undeterred, Complexity put together another comeback, dragging the map into overtime before The MongolZ composed themselves long enough to secure the map 16-13.
The MongolZ abusing Banana on the Inferno decider to take an early lead before Complexity won their first pistol of the series after the swap. Complexity took the lead and Grim won a crucial round with a hero AK, but Usukhbayar "910" Banzragch took over at the end of the map to save his team from a devastating defeat.
The MongolZ remain shaky
The MongolZ were one of the favorites to win PGL Bucharest but didn't live up to that billing, getting cast out during the group stage after losing their 2-2 matchup to the eventual champions, Falcons.
The Mongolian team has been fighting to break through its glass ceiling but repeatedly let significant leads slip when it matters most, and this series was one of the worst examples of it.
