GamerLegion recover from 11-4 down to make Melbourne playoffs over FaZe

ash's troops have recovered from failure in the MRQ in style.

GamerLegion have qualified for IEM Melbourne playoffs after a sensational 2-0 victory over FaZe.

Comebacks were required on both maps, GL winning in double OT from 9-12 on their pick of Mirage and doing so from an even harsher scoreline, 4-11, on FaZe's pick of Nuke.

"We were playing like shit until they got 11," ztr said post-game about the comeback. "Ash took a timeout and said, 'let's play set rounds until we stop playing like shit.' We won three or four rounds playing set, then got a chance to outplay them a bit more in the later stages."

The win puts GamerLegion in back-to-back Big Event playoffs after making quarters at PGL Bucharest, another addition to their impressive catalogue of LAN results in 2025 after a top-eight finish in Katowice.

The only blot on their record is the online Major Regional Qualifier, where two best-of-one losses on day one proved too difficult to overcome.

But they now have an arena playoff match to look forward to, a first for Henrich "sl3nd" Hevesi, Oldřich "PR" Nový, and Sebastian "Tauson" Tauson Lindelof.

ztr's clutches make the difference

GamerLegion had captain ztr to thank for three crucial clutches: Two on Mirage, before a third completed the 4-11 comeback on Nuke in regulation.

ztr's 1v3 on Mirage to deny FaZe the map

ztr converts a 1v1 with milliseconds left on the bomb

"I thought I had zero chance," ztr told Freya "Freya" Spiers post-game about his Nuke 1v3 and he should have done — but the pressure of the eight-round T side streak had got into FaZe's heads according to Filip "NEO" Kubski.

"The setup in the 3v1 wasnt good but it's a result of the whole half," NEO said in his own post-game interview. "The pressure we had on ourselves, the enemies playing really fast-paced CS... They played really good CS."

ztr 1v3 completes nine-round comeback on Nuke

NEO: This result is "not okay"

In that interview, NEO was frank about the scale of FaZe's failure in Melbourne: "It's not okay. It's disappointing. We didn't deserve it this time. We've been working really hard over the last couple of months and in these games, sometimes we're not stable."

The Polish coach pointed to the convincing 2-0 win over 3DMAX earlier this morning as proof that the team can click at the right time, but there are huge question marks over how a Finn "karrigan" Andersen-led team can be so frail mentally.

The team have made playoffs in two of the five Big Events they've attended, but both were at the lower prestige PGL events in Cluj and Bucharest.

A David "frozen" Čerňanský ace clutch got FaZe to 12-9 on Mirage and Helvijs "broky" Saukants sat 14-6 ten rounds into Nuke but when it came to crunch time FaZe had no answer for GamerLegion's pace and firepower.

Austin was always the target to get this constellation online but FaZe are running out of time.

Worst possible set from faze. There was 2 ak in secret. Why didn't they pick it up? What karrigan was doing on a? How broky didn't kill ztr in time when he was shooting to frozen? But ofc great play from ztr. Two 1v3 in series, both in crucial point of each map (9:12 mirage and 12:11 nuke)

Honestly, 4 years ago, me and friends were looking about ztr standing in in that NiP team and somehow talking about him becoming an IGL in the future, but we thought he'd become an IGL by 25, but he just went on and became one at just 20 and now he's leading a team of 3 young unknown players and 1 old forgotten dog that everyone thought was done for to be a top-10 team

I’ve been a faze fan for 5 years now. I’ve been supporting them through the ups and the downs. But this…this was my final straw. I can’t support this team any longer. My doctor said they don’t make anxiety medication strong enough. Goodbye faze clan.

I mean their T side setups were decent, they just made so many mistakes in clutches its insane. The players of their experience should smoke GL in clutch situations. I hope they will sooner or later click together and stop trolling but if they cant figure it out before the major someone is going to get cut.

But that's the problem here: the characteristics of FaZe, what makes them FaZe, is not present in these matches anymore and is what they have lost, like you mentioned with clutch-situations. I've been defending their mid results ever since elige joined, because of the role clashes etc. But losing like this, not even making playoffs to Melbourne in the easiest of the two groups? Nah, Idk how much longer I can wait for them to "click together" and "finally figuring it out". Major will tell I guess, but that could just be the same situation like Shanghai Major, where they were ass for the majority of the time before, and then getting a good run at the Major, but then ending up just fucking sucking afterwards. You can't hold on to a team that only does good in Majors.

They were sucking bc elige joined who knows how they would play with ropz rn. Also you dont have to wait for anything, its up to karrigan to tell if this roster has a future or not. You dont have to support them of course but karrigan said there would ne no excuses at the major so he knows its now or never

I'll keep supporting them of course. It's just harder to believe in this roster, and defending it, like I've done the whole time since elige joined. I'd support them until rain and karrigan are no longer in the organization.

Most people don't know but coach equally plays its part as IGL does deciding their player's game style If they agree to it then it is implemented or else why would a team ever need a coach if IGLs want everything xD

That counts for most IGL, but not for Karrigan. He had always the full control on the team. NEO is just there to support him, not in anyway to lead him.

It isn't about the president. Are you dumb or something? He leads the team on everything what the team is doing inside and outside of the server for CS is what he says is right. Source: Every team he lead worked that way. He himself said the coach isnT so important for him as long as they understand each other. He worked with so many coaches over the year, but not one told Karrigan what he should do. There was never a conflict with other teams about the coach because it's clear Karrigan leads, so he is responsible in the end.

Having known Karrigan since 1.6, it would be sad to see him leave faze. On the other hand, I would be very excited to see him join vitality as a coach, as I think that he could work very well together with apex.
