Vitality keep streak going as they secure semi-final berth in Melbourne

The winning streak now stands at 19 as Vitality chase the Grand Slam in Australia.

Vitality once again showed why they're the team to beat

Vitality are through to the IEM Melbourne playoffs after defeating Falcons 2-0 in the Group B upper bracket final. This victory puts Vitality straight into the semi-finals, and allows them to dodge the Group A top seed, MOUZ, in the bracket.

It wasn't an easy start for Vitality, who were looking to extend their 18-game winning streak going into this series. Falcons took an 11-5 lead on Mirage as both star AWPers, Mathieu "⁠ZywOo⁠" Herbaut and Ilya "⁠m0NESY⁠" Osipov, struggled to get going.

The Frenchman eventually activated, and was one of the factors that helped Vitality turn the map around, forcing overtime on the attack, and keeping the momentum going in extra rounds to secure the 16-12 victory.

Vitality were full of confidence going into their Inferno pick with the 1-0 lead in the series, and although Falcons got within one round after the half, 8-9, the Dan "⁠apEX⁠" Madesclaire-led squad didn't let it get any closer than that and won the series outright from that point.

Right before the match ended, however, Emil "⁠Magisk⁠" Reif had a great opportunity to change the tides with a well-timed flank when down 8-11, but was caught by Vitality's players who were falling back to save and caught him off guard. Three quick kills made the whole afterplant defense crumble and opened up a chance at a retake, which put ZywOo and company on match point.

Falcons are now slated to play GamerLegion in the quarter-finals on Friday on MOUZ's side of the bracket, while Vitality are straight to the semi-finals and just two victories away from a title that would make them ESL Grand Slam champions.

I think magisk is an awesome player but he's not shown his best with falcons. Sonic can't protect him from these leaky performances. Jimmy will stay at mouz so they should target JDC - awesome anchor.

yeah its nonsense. g2 with monesy was an absolute dead team. even with magisk this falcons looks like theyll be up there around/slightly better than ef/mongolz tier, slightly under or around mouz/spirit tier. EVEN WITH MAGISK edit: worst part is that when they kick teses for kyousuke, falcons will be a consistent top 2 team that can rival and beat vitality. whereas if they did -magisk +kyousuke instead you literally have potential for an era tier lineup (shove b1t in there and you have the absolute strongest lineup in any game's history probably)
