PGL Astana 2025FURIA show promise despite opening loss to The MongolZ in Astana
YEKINDAR had a vintage performance on Anubis and was involved in plenty of opening duels throughout the series.
FURIA played their first game as an international squad at PGL Astana, where they lost their opener in the Swiss group stage 1-2 to The MongolZ, the last team they played with their old roster over a month ago at PGL Bucharest and also lost to, 0-2.
This time around the new international squad were blown out of the water on Mirage, where Azbayar "Senzu" Munkhbold dominated with a 2.19 rating, in what initially was fixing to become a quick affair between a quasi-elite squad and a new team that just went through the big change of fielding a Brazilian five to calling in English.
The MongolZ had everything on their side on Anubis, starting on the preferred T side, but they were shut down over and over again as they relied on winning duels, but Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis with a 7-1 opening duel ratio gave FURIA a leg up as they went on to lead 9-3 at the half.
The MongolZ put some makeup on the scoreline after the half, winning four in a row, but the writing was on the wall and Inferno would be needed to separate the two teams.
Danil "molodoy" Golubenko, the other new face in the Brazilian-majority team, made his international LAN debut with FURIA in his home country, and although he wasn't particularly decisive throughout the series, he landed some shots with the big green and helped out with the AK on occasion.
On Inferno, Garidmagnai "bLitz" Byambasuren and Senzu were too much for FURIA, especially on the T side, where they both tallied 1.50 ratings as the Mongolian squad caught fire with a 9-0 start before FURIA could get on the board with three rounds before the half.
Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo tried to lead a rally in the second half, and FURIA did bridge the gap, winning six of the first nine rounds, but eventually fell to the better team.
