malbsMd: "I think I'm coming back, I feel happier"

"The last four months were terrible for me," the Guatemalan admitted.

PGL Astana was G2's first event following the departure of their talisman, Ilya "⁠m0NESY⁠" Osipov. His replacement, Olek "⁠hades⁠" Miskiewicz, who was signed as a short-term solution until the summer break, has not been given the easiest debut tournament, however, as the team is playing with Wiktor "⁠TaZ⁠" Wojtas instead of Nemanja "⁠huNter-⁠" Kovač due to visa issues.

The team lost to MIBR and ODDIK to find themselves in the 0-2 pool, but live to fight another day after a hard-fought victory over Mario "⁠malbsMd⁠" Samayoa's ex-team M80.

"Losing to MIBR and ODDIK hurts a lot, but we understand that we have a stand-in and we just added Olek [hades] to the team," the Guatemalan told HLTV after the victory.

He also spoke about the recent roster rumors and gave his thoughts about being the future of G2 in the full interview, which you can read or listen to in full below.

I'm here with malbsMd after G2 just beat his ex-team and avoided a 0-3 exit at PGL Astana. How was that game from your perspective?

It was really good. I think I had a really good impact on the map, and our CT was really good. Our T side obviously improved a lot from the last two days, it was really terrible for us, but we had a really good talk and I think we managed to fix it. It was way better today.

Talking about this tournament in general, huNter- is obviously not here, so how are you guys taking it? Is it just a free hit to get to know hades a bit?

We obviously keep it competitive. We want to win, and losing to MIBR and ODDIK hurts a lot, but we understand that we have a stand-in and we just added Olek [hades] to the team. It's kind of chill in that way, but it obviously hurts to lose. We want to be one of the top teams like G2 always is, you know?

Would you say you're still happy with what you've shown here so far? TaZ had some pretty rough words yesterday on Twitter.

I mean, I have been really off social media, so I don't open Twitter. If I do, it's just because someone sends me a link or something. I'm really out of social media, but I don't know… I'm not sure, to be honest, I think it's been okay. We could have won both games, we obviously choked from 10-2. It's been the second time we choked it, but I think we are doing fine. We can do better, but we're doing fine overall, considering we have a coach [playing].

G2 are once again rumored to be changing after the Major, as hades is announced as a short-term addition. Is it taxing to seemingly always play in a team that you know is going to change very soon?

I don't know, they're just rumors, I don't think it affects anyone. I mean, it doesn't affect me, but I think we just keep it competitive, just like what happened last year. There were some rumors about people leaving, and even though they were going to leave, we just kept it competitive and professional.

hades is announced as a short-term option. How has he adapted to the team in the short time you had together?

He's a really nice guy. He's trying to be active, he's trying to help me call on CT, and he has some plays sometimes. Sometimes he becomes a little bit quiet, depending on the day, but overall I think he's a nice guy, a really nice player. I like him a lot, and we feel really comfortable with him.

Recently, G2 lost NiKo and m0NESY, and the CEO mentioned that you and HeavyGod are the future of G2. Are you excited to start building this next chapter for the org?

Of course. I want to be the best I can, and I think I'm finally starting to show my true capabilities, because the last four months were terrible for me. I accept it and I acknowledge it, but I think it started from our last bootcamp. I think I've never felt this comfortable before. I just started a little bit shaky at this event, but yeah, there's no huNter-, we have to play with TaZ, it's like a shit show, but it's fine. I think I'm coming back, and it's good, I feel happier.
