Grim: "All of us should feel bad and reflect on this during the break"

"We never want this to happen again," the American rifler added.

Complexity came into Stage 1 of the BLAST.tv Austin Major as the second-highest ranked team, but were forced to play without their AWPer Håkon "hallzerk" Fjærli due to visa issues.

The team won just one match in Austin, a best-of-one against Fluxo, and were bested by OG, NRG, and TYLOO to exit the tournament with a 1-3 record.

"Nothing against junior, he's a good player in my opinion, but obviously you prefer your main AWPer," Michael "Grim" Wince told HLTV after the loss against TYLOO.

Commiserations on the loss. Obviously, it's a rough situation with the stand-in, but how do you feel right now after the game?

A lot of emotions. Honestly, very disappointed because I think all of us here even with the stand-in, we expected at least to go to Stage 2, and to not even be able to get two wins in the first stage is obviously very disappointing.

I think all of us should feel bad, and then we should definitely go reflect on this during the player break and see what we can do to come back stronger, because I think all of us never want this to happen again.

What do you think went wrong? Because as you said, even though you had a stand-in, you were still one of the favorites to make it through.

I'd say a lot of it was just our mid-round decision-making sometimes. We're just not on the same page sometimes, one person's doing something while another person's about to do something else, and we're not coming together and forming one plan that makes sense, or at least doing what someone says.

I think that is a part of it. Besides that, we're lacking some composure in rounds, sometimes we get a little antsy, in a 5vs3, for example, we can keep going and give them more, and then all of a sudden it's a 3vs3. Just stuff like that I'd say are the main part of it.

Looking at this first part of the year, it went pretty well until this tournament after a slow start. How do you look back at these few months before reflecting during the summer break?

Honestly, I'd say the start was really bad. I think we were like 0-10 or something at the start, but we definitely turned it around. I think we surpassed a lot of people's expectations, specifically in Bucharest. Then at the event after that, in Melbourne, we didn't really do too well, but in Bucharest for sure we did great.

I think we were on the best form that we have had in a long time here on Complexity, and then obviously hallzerk not having his visa is super unfortunate. We had to get a stand-in, so I wish we could have seen what we could have done with hallzerk.

Nothing against junior, he's a good player in my opinion, but obviously, you prefer your main AWPer. That's a blow, but overall I'd say the season didn't go like the best obviously, but I definitely think it didn't go the worst it could have.

Junior did well tbf, Nicx and Cxzi not good enough. Reckon Grim could jump ship, deserves a better team. Wildcard maybe?

It's the NA work ethic. Instead of focusing on individuality and your team atmosphere it's just all toxicity. It hasn't changed since 1.6, it won't change any time soon unless NA its self tries harder to be more mature. I've been in those scenarios way too much and am apart of the problem, but I'm just trying to state facts. NA could have the best roster possible, but not make it work just because of individuality and egos.

I like this from Grim. I've always liked him, but I used to think he lacked confidence and drive. This is the right attitude, I think. Expect more.

Honestly, I just realized how poor Complexitys season really is, I mean, the only event they played above the expectations is Bucharest right? So it's one good event in this whole season? It's really not a great look, I wonder if they go into the next one with the same roster, because you really have to wonder how far are the limits? Maybe the limit was this 4th place in Bucharest which of course was impressive, but do you really want the heights of your team to be 4th place at an A-tier event? I thought the season was better for coL than it really was, I'm surprised.

Team loses star rifler who was top 20 in 2024... Coach is removed... Whole teams positions are reshuffled with 2 new players... Team loses their Awper to VISA... Your Conclusion: They had a pretty bad year...

Yeah of course I understand all of the excuses, they're completely understandable, but it doesn't change my question really, I'm wondering if coL believes this roster can get better and if they will stick to it or maybe try to find new NA youngsters. They had a pretty rough season in the end.

They went into Bucharest and the only team they couldn't beat was G2 with m0nesy on it... That's a pretty good result man. They just got unlucko having to play them again early in the Playoff.
