Chr1zn: "It's nice to win here, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't look at the VRS points every time"

The Danish IGL is aware that a good Major result would give OG a great platform for the fall season.

Christoffer "Chr1zN" Storgaard's OG squad made light work of Complexity, TYLOO, and NRG to qualify for the BLAST.tv Austin Major Stage 2, and the young IGL says the team merely met expectations by progressing.

"We've always seen ourselves as one of the teams that should go through," he told HLTV after the win against NRG.

The young team, which is taking the tournament as a learning experience given three of their members are Major rookies, has now set its sights on Stage 2, where they could face the likes of FaZe and Falcons.

Congrats, you're through to the next stage with a 3-1 record. What are your thoughts about this achievement?

It's very nice, of course. I'm very happy for us to come through the way we did. I think we played very solid CS, we had a little bump on the road against B8 of course. But I feel like even in that game, we knew what we did wrong, so it wasn't too bad. I'm just really happy.

Was it nice to get such a dominant win today in the best-of-three in terms of confidence before going into the next stage?

For sure. I feel like we've always seen ourselves as one of the teams that should go through. But of course, playing in this manner gives a lot of confidence going into the next stage, and also just in general for everyone on the team.

You guys came into the Major as three rookies, and it was also your first LAN this year. How have you found the fact that your first LAN is the Major? Was there any pressure or just smooth sailing?

I think so far, I haven't felt too much of the pressure. We all know that it's our first time, so we are here to learn and experience it all. And as you said, the first LAN this year, it's nice to be on LAN. Haven't done too much of it myself, but it's been really great. I like the setups and everything is good, so it's nice.

You said you haven't done many LANs in your career. I think you're one of the youngest IGLs we have in the scene, so how has that been for you? Does it help to have a young team around you?

As a young IGL, it's not something I think about too much. It's also something I've always said that my age shouldn't be taken into account in all teams I played for, because we are on equal terms.

I think as soon as people get to know me, they don't feel the age gap as much, so it's not about having a young team or an old team for me. It's just about us being compatible and the chemistry being there. That's what we went for, and it's working out great so far.

Overall, players your age don't usually choose the IGL role. Why was this the path that you chose?

I think I've just always wanted to be in control, to be the guy who took charge. Early on when I started playing, I played with people around my own age and as you said, not a lot of people want to do that. Therefore, I just kind of got to have the reins and continued working on it throughout my career, and now we're here.

Earlier in the year, you said that you want OG to be a top 15 team. Do you view this event as a big opportunity to break out and rise up the VRS rankings to receive invites for the next season?

For sure. Of course, it's nice to win here at the Major, but I would be lying if I didn't look at the VRS points each and every time we win, it means a lot. We haven't had any LAN games, so it's very nice for us on the ranking as well, which is really good, and of course, we're happy that we have made the best of it so far.

Next up is Stage 2, and there are some pretty good teams coming into it. What do you expect and what would you be happy with for the next stage?

I think we have to take it game by game. Of course, we're really happy that we went through, and that was kind of like the first expectation. We'll just have to see and do our best.

I mean realistically OG won't win the thing so might as well focus on something that might get them tournament invites rather than them consistently only playing tier 2

Getting to the next stage of the major means that they will get more VRS, you do understand that right? They still care about advancing, because advancing means future opportunities.

read the interview, its in response to a question asked by the interviewer refrencing rankings "Earlier in the year, you said that you want OG to be a top 15 team. Do you view this event as a big opportunity to break out and rise up the VRS rankings to receive invites for the next season?" "For sure. Of course, it's nice to win here at the Major, but I would be lying if I didn't look at the VRS points each and every time we win, it means a lot. yeah. personally i don't want "we'll get more invites next season" to be more important to any player than "we are going to the next stage of the major", and that's what i'm expressing with #1

because fkn tier 1 tourneys won't do open qualifiers or even closed qualifiers even. only hope is good placing on previous events especially LANs.

Why? Don’t you want teams that don’t get t1 invites a chance at t1 and practice to become better? Or would you rather them have a delusional belief of beating vitality and forgetting about their future?

As for the T1 invitations, absolutely yes! If you make it into the top 24 or top 16, the world changes drastically.
