lux jokes: "Stage 1 was too difficult, Stage 2 was easy"

"It was a great game, and I think FaZe will go through tomorrow," the Brazilian IGL added.

Legacy came into the Austin Major as a last-minute replacement for BESTIA, and the Brazilian team was not expected to upset the apple cart in the States.

That was far from what happened, though, as they progressed through Stage 1 before going one better in Stage 2. Legacy beat MIBR, 3DMAX, and lastly, Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev's FaZe to make the Major top 16 with a 3-0 record.

After the upset win, Lucas "lux" Meneghini spoke to HLTV about the game and being the first Brazilian team to make Stage 3.

Congrats, you're through 3-0. I just want to ask where did this come from, and how do you feel right now?

We gave everything to be here… Well, not to be here, because we didn't qualify in the usual way, but we gave everything to show our potential, to show that we can beat these guys, beat the top 10, and play our CS. We had a tough season. We got some wins and qualified for some events, but we didn't show up at the LAN events, so I think it's very good to get the experience that we as a team and me as a leader need.

It feels like FaZe is a level above the other teams that you have faced here so far. How did it feel to beat such a team to make it through?

I think that in this Major, Stage 1 and Stage 2 are now inverted; the other one was too difficult, this one was easy [laughs]. Just kidding, just kidding. FaZe is in great shape, we practiced a lot against them and I think the team right now is working in a different way since adding s1mple, it's something that increases the power of the team. It was a great game, and I think they will go through tomorrow.

You guys are pretty inexperienced, you have a Major rookie as well. How was the team feeling coming into today's game and facing karrigan, s1mple, and players like that. Did you discuss that at all?

I think we learned a lot on day one and two of Stage 1, because we were playing teams that we knew were at the same level. We were a little bit shocked, so now we are just focused on us, getting rid of the pressure, because at the end of the day, we weren't supposed to be here. Everything that we do is just something extra.

You've been on IGL for six months and you're already in the Major top 16. Did you expect to find success like this quickly?

No, not this quickly, I would lie if I said that. I knew that I needed to be in IGL, as I said in another interview, to win some tournaments. I knew that this was something that I needed to pursue, but I didn't expect it, [even] after I made some goals for my career.

Of course, my dream is to win everything that I can achieve, but my goal was to get some international LANs that we did in Dallas and Bucharest. Then I was making the Major, and now it's Legends Stage [Stage 3]. It was something I didn't expect at the beginning of the year.

You're currently the only Brazilian team in Stage 3. How does it feel to lead the charge for the country?

We feel very good because I know that we don't have the pressure right now in this game [against FaZe], but I feel like this can put us under pressure, so we don't think a lot about being top-one in Brazil. CS is a roller coaster, because today you are the top-one, and then you are top-two. I had this in paiN against FURIA last year, and it's not something we think about.

On media day, you said that you expect Legacy to improve with each stage. Is that what we're seeing here now? Are you the best version of yourselves now?

Yeah, I hope so. I think we are getting better match by match because we are improving our map pool. We had some doubts in our Dust2, in this tournament and in this year, because we won sometimes and then got obliterated, you know. But we talked a lot, and we are improving.

I mean, it's incredibly impressive that such a young team, with an IGL that has like what, few months of experience in the role, go up against FaZe Clan in a Major, in a BO3 series and win, and dominantly at that, I'm insanely impressed, huge respect to Legacy for what they showed in this Stage 2 really. I remember I watched one of their games in Stage 1 against Chinggis Warriors and thought to myself, man, that's 2 teams that play really trashy brand of CS, how are they at a Major, and then watched them today, and the improvement is massive, insane to see. I mean, if they keep up improving in this tempo, coming into the playoffs they will be the favourites or some shit :D GL boys, really impressed.
