IEM Cologne 2025G2 send 3DMAX home from Cologne
The huNter-led project is one match away from the LANXESS.
G2 are into Group A's playoff decider after beating 3DMAX in convincing fashion.
It's a familiar story for 3DMAX, who have maintained their status as a solid top 15 team but have only made top-eight at one Big Event (PGL Bucharest) this year.
The series started with a mood-boosting Alexandre "bodyy" Pianaro ace against USPs and the veteran Frenchman followed it up in the next gun-round to put himself 13-2 and 3DMAX leading 4-2 on Ancient.
Clip: bodyy gets two aces in two rounds.
But G2 were the superior outfit in the remaining rounds, using a Eetu "sAw" Saha timeout at 8-8 before ending the match with five T side rounds in a row. Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač's calling was excellent , finding an empty A bomb-site twice, including a well-timed rush call for 13.
On Inferno it was a bit tougher, a 6-6 T half for G2, but their firepower reigned supreme on CT side with a flawless 7-0 half.
G2 will now face the winner of Falcons versus FURIA for a spot in the quarter-finals.

G2 stick with Inferno pick
G2 have picked Inferno in all three of their series at IEM Cologne, despite it being Álvaro "SunPayus" García' and sAw's long-time first ban at HEROIC and ENCE.
That speaks to their confidence in huNter-'s calling on a map that has been a G2 trademark for so long.
It also works in terms of roles, letting Matúš "MATYS" Šimko roam as an aggressive lurker out Boiler with Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa pressuring Banana.
Spanish sniper SunPayus has had a tough debut so far for G2, and hit a low with a 0.67 rating against Vitality, so it was promising to see him top-frag with 17 on a map he has so few reps in.
So far, so good for the new G2.
