IEM Cologne 2025Vitality keep unbeaten streak over The MongolZ to reach Cologne semi-final
Vitality are now 9-0 in their head-to-head over bLitz's troops.
Vitality have secured a semi-final berth at IEM Cologne after beating The MongolZ 2-0 in the Group A upper bracket final.
The teams last faced in the spring season-ending BLAST.tv Austin Major grand final, where The MongolZ drew first blood on Mirage but couldn't take things over the line on Dust2 and Inferno.
This time around Vitality didn't give The MongolZ the chance to put up a fight, running away with the first half of Mirage after prevailing in several clutch situations for an 8-4 lead before closing out the map with little trouble after the swap.
Inferno unfolded much the same as William "mezii" Merriman and Robin "ropz" Kool led the charge to a 6-0 lead, with The MongolZ fighting back to close the deficit only for Shahar "flameZ" Shushan to pull off a 1v3 ace clutch to keep Vitality ahead at the break.
The MongolZ won the pistol and anti-eco after the swap but were immediately put on notice by Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut, who tallied a 14-3 K-D, 130.4 ADR, and 2.25 CT side rating to close out the series in style.
Vitality extend unbeaten streak over The MongolZ
Vitality's win extends their unbeaten head-to-head over Garidmagnai "bLitz" Byambasuren's troops to nine in a row (8-0 in series), a streak that extends back to PGL Major Copenhagen in March 2024.
The MongolZ took one step back from their Major series and walked away without a map win in a game filled with mistakes in late-round scenarios, but will head to the LANXESS with the thought of revenge on their minds if they can rematch Vitality in the final.
