prosus returns to BIG's main roster, ScrunK out after a month

The German squad undergoes a series of changes after a slow start into the new season.

prosus returns to BIG's main team a year after being benched

BIG have announced several changes in their main and academy rosters: Can "kyuubii" Ali and David "prosus" Hesse have traded places, while Sebastian "xenn" Hoch has been reinstated as the main team's head coach in place of Robin "ScrunK" Röpke.

The coaching staff changes also see BIG Academy's in-game leader, Lukas "FreeZe" Hegmann, become assistant coach to xenn in the main roster.

The changes are the latest in a series of musical chair moves in BIG. ScrunK was brought on in July to lead the restructuring of the coaching staff, only to leave a month later following a mutual agreement that "it wasn't a good fit for both sides."

It seems to be a sharp turn from late last month, when the 30-year-old was positive about the future despite the team's early exit from IEM Cologne. "I'm a pretty optimistic guy, so I'd say hopefully in a few months you will see a different side of BIG when we get to work with every individual in this team," he told HLTV.

ScrunK: "Hopefully in a few months you will see a different side of BIG"

The team has continued to struggle upon returning to tier-two competition, dropping to a team-low 43rd place on the Valve Regional Standings with a 6-13 record in matches in the new season.

Their solution now is to bring prosus back into the team just a month after he was taken off the bench to reform the BIG Academy, coming in place of kyuubii, who goes the other way after joining the German side at the beginning of the year.

Meanwhile, xenn will also make his return to coaching the main team after taking over the job on an interim basis from Alexander "kakafu" Szymanczyk earlier this year, before he was appointed assistant coach to ScrunK and head of the BIG Academy in July.

BIG now are:

Germany Johannes "tabseN" Wodarz
Germany Jon "JDC" de Castro
Germany Karim "Krimbo" Moussa
Germany Marcel "hyped" Köhn
Germany David "prosus" Hesse

Germany Sebastian "xenn" Hoch (head coach)

I think your country needs to focus on a better academy structure + introduce esports in school rather than trying to have an unsuccessful team in tier1. Not a lot of financial incentives to go pro when you are German compared to if you are from a 3rd world country. edit It's easier to become a doctor and live a upper middle class life in Germany rather than waste your life trying to become pro. Where I'm from it's either work your entire life to still be lower class or try to go pro and earn more than your entire village combined, even match fixing once is like a yearly salary.

You way overestimate germany. The state is rich, the people are not. Germans own less than their neighbours in capital, less homeowners etc. Taxes & duties are massive Housing market is dead & expensive. Its actually hard to get back in job life if you tried to be a pro-gamer for 3-4 years right after school. Me & our company left germany due to all the problems & we are now happily in switzerland without all the troubles. Germany is not in a good spot at all, its not the germany of the 90s & early 2000s anymore. Economy, taxes, medical aid, school, social & pension system are completely broken compared to the 2000s.

Average Switzerland refugee. Quit acting like you lead a worse life as a german university educated person, than in countries like Ukraine, Russia, Mongolia, or whatever country is producing the hotshot talents right now. If I am a german 18 year old and get a degree in a somewhat relevant field, I have almost a guarantee, that I will live a comfortable life. I will probably not get rich, but I can support my family and go on vacation like once a year, Other countries do not have that, and the ESports scene definitely does not have that, So the gamble of trying to go pro makes way less sense in Germany, than in Russia.

Name checks out. If you get a degree in relevant field even in Russia you can support the family and go on vacation once a year, that's not much to boast about. I'm definitely not saying that Russia is better than Germany, maybe "somewhat relevant field" is smaller in Russia and also not everyone can afford to move to a big city where all the possibilities are, but it's definitely not as bad as you describe. CS as whole has just been more popular here for quite a long time, not so much to do with possibilities. Russia has a big tier 2-4 scene, and it's not like salary and guarantees in those small teams are particularly high. You can check the biography of Russian top players, most of them start playing from a very early age, now they even have a defined career path in academies; it's a natural choice to pursue the career in a field you spent most of your life in, not because there's nothing else they can do. There are countries like you describe, but Russia is not the best example.

St Petersburg and Moscow are hardly representetive of Russia at large. If you come from Chelyabinsk, from a lower class family, I wish you could luck getting an education, climbing the social ladder and escaping poverty. But hey, you do you.

Then why the most prominent cs 1.6 nations were Sweden and Denmark, where you could easily surpass the income from gaming with a side hustle in a grocery store? Success of a certain country in a game is mostly determined by game popularity and proper eco-system that allows future pro’s develop. Economic factors play a minor role here.

That is true, in the beginning of even CS:GO, nobody was doing eSports as a full time job. It was mostly a sidehustle / hobby. Afaik NiP was the first full time professional team. But yes, Sweden and Denmark are different in that regard, as eSports is way more widely accepted in society and therefore also by parents as a career choice. Germany is significantly more conservative in that regard. I am not saying that economy is the sole factor, but I believe it is a major factor.

I don´t understand why it is the same over and over again. At some point you need to understand that you need more changes to the same time. I feel like you need at least 3 new players that the playstyle of the hole team changes. For example the time with rigon felt not bad at all because there was on guy with something new to the team in therms of the playstyle. But in the end rigon got slower in the rounds and played more like the others and the playstyle from the other clearly didn´t work. I feel like when a new player comes to the team they say ,, He brings new things or perspektives to the team but in the end it is just gone you don´t see Nothing change. I think the solution could be to start making bigger changes like playling with faven sin and slaxz of course its costy but in the end you have realy something new a lot new players with their own playstyle and then it envolves to something new. Its just the same and if that is now going to continue i may consider cheering for a team that dose not make the same mistakes over and over again

Big doing idiotic roster moves isnt recent. They have been recycling players around tabsen for 5 years. Even before that they had roster moves like -smooya +smooya (for 100 maps), or adding denis (29 maps). Look at their roster timeline and laugh. I hope JDC and Prosus leave, then finally disband this mess.

BIG should disband for doing that to my GOAT. I believe in karma.

The day BIG removes tabsen will be the day they actually move forward as an org. That guy is such a bot. Literally the only constant in every single failed BIG team.

This org is a joke and lost any remaining respect with that video blaming syrson.

there was a rumor shortly after ScrunK joined that they wanted to bring back gob b as coach... i wonder what happens now. -kyuubi +prosus is a fat upgrade IMO but i highly doubt that this will change a lot. i love tabsen and i'm sure there would still be some space for him in a good version of BIG but i still think they need to add s1n and slaxz to bounce back to becoming a solid team again

BIG always forget to throw out the garbage called tabsen out of the house, that stoopid is single handedly ruining everyone else's career

I expected changes to come sooner or later. But holy hell, this move is ridiculous. I seriously don't know what is going on inside BIGs management? Come on roman R., please explain. I was hoping that scrunk is the first step to get away from BIGs static playstyle. And that tabsen will be removed from being a IGL.

BIG keep doing irrelevant roster changes that will not take them forward at all.

idk about skrunk but bringing back admitted cheater xenn is a disgrace. kyuubi, hyped and krimbo all were too inconsistent the last few months. lets hope prosus can be more consistent.

prosus was doing very well in academy, so let's see, but hyped is still an issue, he is just not a "top 20" awp player after all. Not a bad player, but more for t2 teams, which BIG once wasn't. But when you go from top 10 to top 50 in 4 years...
