HeavyGod: “Everybody says I’m harsh on myself; I’m trying to be a perfect player”
"It's really important for me to maintain my level and go higher and higher," he said after the match against FaZe.

Nikita "HeavyGod" Martynenko played an instrumental role on Friday as G2 beat FaZe 2-0 in the quarter-finals of BLAST Open London. He posted a series-high 1.48 rating and had several impactful rounds, including a 1v3 clutch on Dust2 that brought his team back into the game.
Signed from Cloud9 at the start of the year, HeavyGod has cemented his credentials as one of the best anchors in the world this year, in which he is averaging a 1.16 rating. Those are the sort of numbers most players dream of, but he confessed that he sometimes becomes frustrated when things don't go his way.
"There's a lot of easy kills that I don't kill sometimes," he told HLTV after the match. "It annoys me.
"I'm harsh on myself, I know, everybody says it to me, but this is me. I'm trying to be a perfect player. I know it's impossible, nobody is perfect, but I'm trying to go higher and higher with my level, and it's really important for me to maintain my level and go higher and higher."
HeavyGod also heaped praise on Eetu "sAw" Saha, who took charge of the team as head coach in July, replacing Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas on the job.
"We have structure, everyone knows their role — we can switch our role, because you cannot be stuck in one role and that's it, people need to be flexible," he said.
"We know we can cover up each other, sAw is putting it in us that we need to cover each other, and push each other to our limits and just continue believing in each other and pushing each other. Just continue working hard and good times will be ahead of us."
A great arena performance from you, how does that feel?
It feels amazing. Of course, I'm not satisfied fully with my level because I can do better but I'm really happy with the win because we performed well as a team and this is the most important thing, the victory.
What was it like in that arena? The crowd were big for FaZe, but your team looked really strong despite it being your arena debut.
I think we try to stay humble and support each other, help each other, keep everyone accountable. Just, give everyone compliments and support each other, hype up, give your best on the server because we don't work for nothing. That's how I see it. We work really hard as a team, as individuals, we want to go higher and higher.
Did you enjoy getting the AWP out in overtime?
Yeah. I really enjoy it. AWP is an insane weapon, yeah. I call it a 'noob weapon' but I still use it sometimes. It's fun.
On what you were saying earlier about your level, what do you mean when you say you can do better? In terms of anchors, at least by the stats, you're already up there so where do you feel like you need to improve?
I don't really look at stats or anything, being top anchor or whatever. If it's there, if I'll be granted, I'll be granted. But what I mean is that there's a lot of easy kills that I don't kill sometimes. It annoys me. I'm harsh on myself, I know, everybody says it to me but this is me. I'm trying to be a perfect player. I know it's impossible, nobody is perfect, but I'm trying to go higher and higher with my level and it's really important for me to maintain my level and go higher and higher.
Try and explain a bit to me what being in this new G2 is like, with sAw's ideas and everything. Are you enjoying the new system?
Yeah, obviously. sAw is a really great guy, he's really smart. I only heard good things about him before he joined, and everything people said is true. He puts in an insane amount of hours, he teaches us a lot of small stuff, he goes through small mistakes with us, and explains different ways we can understand the game or different situations. He's giving us solutions for, really it can be anything.
We have structure, everyone knows their role — we can switch our role, because you cannot be stuck in one role and that's it, people need to be flexible. We know we can cover up each other, sAw is putting it in us that we need to cover each other, and push each other to our limits and just continue believing in each other and pushing each other. Just continue working hard and good times will be ahead of us.
G2, in our heads, were a team of superstars in years gone by. What's it like having a more flat structure where any of you four, and even huNter- as well as we saw today, can pop off? Is it a benefit?
I don't know about the stars, I wasn't in the team before so I can't really say. All of us are really good individuals. We don't need an insane superstar or anything because we know how to work together as a unit. We cover up for each other, we can support really good. Of course we can be better, of course, but we are doing our best. Mario is insane, MATYS, SunPayus, huNter- is IGLing but also fragging a lot. We have a solid team and we just need to work harder and harder to get better.
Lastly, what are your thoughts on FURIA tomorrow?
I'm open-minded. They're a strong opponent. We faced them twice in Cologne, one win, one loss. We're going to prepare well, sleep well, and do our best on the server.
