nicoodoz: "We only came to win some VRS points, but we made the road harder for ourselves"

nicoodoz is leaving StarLadder StarSeries Fall knowing OG have severely damaged their chances of making the Major.

OG arrived in Budapest knowing they were one of a raft of teams in attendance that were chasing a Major qualification berth, with a chance of making it but currently projected to narrowly miss out.

Instead of bolstering their chances by racking up some VRS points, OG floundered, finding themselves comfortably beaten by Ninjas in Pyjamas before squandering a 12-5 lead against B8 to slip out of StarLadder StarSeries Fall in joint-last place.

"Right now it just feels really bad," Nico "⁠nicoodoz⁠" Tamjidi told HLTV after losing to B8. "I don't know how but we managed to lose some rounds we should never lose in our favour."

Whilst OG have given themselves a mountain to climb in order to make the Major, nicoodoz tried to focus on how his team can progress. "Of course this loss sucks, but there's 20 things we can learn from this game and we just have to grow up, move on and become better."

What are your thoughts on that series?

Right now it just feels really bad, I don't know how but we managed to lose some rounds we should never lose in our favour. It can be aim fails, it can be honestly whatever, but they are rounds that we should win, we need to win to win these games. We managed to lose them, that's how it goes, it's Counter-Strike. You go out and have to go home.

What happened on the second map? You had a 12-5 lead and they came back into it.

I think we shut down in communication. Slowly, the more rounds they won the less we started speaking to each other, with the micro-comms especially when we want to go and clear something on a site. We were missing a lot of small stuff I would say, because I don't think there was anything wrong with the overall calls on the T side, I think it was a lot of the small stuff that we just messed up. If you do that, you get destroyed by better players.

How does this result feel considering that this was a really good chance to boost your Major qualification chances?

Obviously, it sucks. We only came here to win some points for the VRS ranking to make it to the Major, so knowing now that it's going to be way harder… We just made the road way harder for ourselves you know, if there even is a road, I'm not sure yet. We have a couple more LANs to go to, but I don't want to focus too much on it, I just want to be happy with the end result when I get home in three weeks.

Looking forward for OG, what do you think you need to do to make sure these types of results don't happen?

It's hard to say. I think we have a lot to work on, but being honest I think we improved a lot with the new roster, the two new additions of arrozdoce and adamb, so I think we need to just keep working hard and improving. Of course this loss sucks, but there's 20 things we can learn from this game and we just have to grow up, move on and become better.

How are you feeling with the new roster, do you feel like you have a better peak than with the previous players?

I would say so, yeah. I think we definitely have a higher peak, I think we have more firepower on the team now, which was also the goal for the roster. I think we just need to keep working on the small stuff and the rest will fall into place naturally.
