ESL Pro League Season 22The MongolZ send M8s home from EPL
The Mongolian squad are continuing their road to redemption after a surprising 0-2 start in Sweden.
The MongolZ have secured themselves a shot at playoff qualification at ESL Pro League thanks to a 2-0 win over Gentle Mates, cruising to a win on Inferno (13-8) before scrapping past the Spaniards in OT on Mirage (22-19).
Inferno was relatively smooth sailing for The MongolZ as they won and converted the pistol rounds in both halves, leaving Gentle Mates unable to get a foothold.
The Spanish side enjoyed far better fortunes on Mirage, Alejandro "alex" Masanet's aggressive CT play in Middle catching The MongolZ off-guard repeatedly and ensuring a strong lead for his team at the half.
The MongolZ kicked off their own defense with eight rounds in a row to threaten a 2-0, with Usukhbayar "910" Banzragch producing some highlight rounds, before a string of successful Gentle Mates B executes took the map to overtime.
Gentle Mates continued to fight hard into overtime, staying level with The MongolZ into a third set of extra rounds, but their Mongolian opponents eventually found the answers needed to seal the series in two maps.
Gentle Mates' valiant campaign comes to a close
After kicking their Stage 2 campaign off with a 2-0 win over Vitality, Gentle Mates found themselves unable to replicate that form as they faced a string of tough matchups.
The Spanish side couldn't pick up another map win as MOUZ, Aurora and The MongolZ cast them aside, but Gentle Mates can still hold their heads up high after taking wins off G2 and Vitality across a largely successful campaign. The VRS gains they have made will be a boon to them come the next round of event invites, if nothing else.
