A dominant Inferno and impressive Mirage comeback books Vitality a quarter-final ticket.
Vitality are the latest team into ESL Pro League's playoffs after a 2-0 win over G2.
The match had shades of the first half of 2025: Vitality were domineering frontrunners on Inferno, racing to a 8-0 lead, before they came back from 2-9 down on map two to show the resilience we saw so often last season.
"We were pretty calm. It felt like the old Vitality in that comeback," William "mezii" Merriman said on broadcast post-game.
An easy win on Inferno, the map G2 were 8-1 on since August, was a confidence booster with Robin "ropz" Kool leading the way and 11 of the 15 opening duels going the way of Dan "apEX" Madesclaire and company.
Mirage opened with a sensational Álvaro "SunPayus" García quad-kill in the pistol, and the Spaniard was on his way to the type of bull-taming performance he made his name with against Vitality in 2022 and 2023 when he sat 16-4 at the half.
But Vitality did not fold as SunPayus cooled off, and slowly worked their way back to overtime and an eventual victory.
"Our trades at the start of this season have been very bad," mezii continued. "But we're starting to bring that back, the communication is much better."
There may have been ring rust against Gentle Mates, but in their next three series Vitality posted a 71.7% round win rate and look back to their frightening best.
