Ner0 ready to explain why m0nesy deserves the MVP despite only getting kill without impact and missing shots, and, how this MVP puts him in the race for top3 HLTV.

m0nesy objectively got impactful kills, and zywoo objectively got unimpactful kills

"I said so because I said so" aaah Well, when Falcons win, m0nesy isn't MVP, and there he did not make any round by himself. At least ZywOo had some clutches. Not saying that he didn't play tho

Because round swing(the metric specifically designed to measure the impact of each kill), said so

nevertheless in a final falcons did not win a single map out of 3 played. He was not that impactful. You can get Mvp even if u did not won the tournement, but at least carry a map.

hltv.org/news/42930/m0nesy-takes-esl-pro.. Perhaps you should take an appointment. This issue is more serious than you might think. - It shows 3.0 is flawed as it needs manual correction. Of course no one expected to be perfect, but not flawed to point of giving opposite result of what's expected as stated by nerO in his correction. - rating is supposed to correct eye test, giving a more objective perspective on players performance. By being manually corrected it became the opposite : eye test is needed to correct rating. - it impact the credibility of the system, as even if those corrections were made to correct the system, it also exposed the system can be changed at will. HLTV recently made a column about an hypothetical bad actor playing the VRS system. The same column can be made for HLTV rating too. And the various thread about Monesy MVP already shows that hltv credibility is taking a toll.

instead of trolling and deflecting you should should acknowledge that rating 3.0 is flawed because it needs manual adjustments and because manual adjustments are even possible. In my eyes hltv is slowly turning unreliable. Be it mistakes (grammatical or factual) in articles, bias towards certain players (monesy) or untrustworthy rating system that needs manual adjustments. If I were only me, ok, I'm just an individual and my opinion doesn't have to matter to you. But clearly it's not just me.

One of the problems is that people here have a way too simplistic view on how algorithms work. I'm in no way, shape or form an expert on algortihms, but expecting that there won't be edge cases that have to be adjusted manually is rather oblivious considering how complex stuff is getting. The more factors you add to an algorithm the more balancing you have to do + the more situations will arise that weren't accounted for when designing it.

Actually no. An algorithm can have no edge cases, and CS rating is not the most complex algorithm outthere. Even if apparently complex, it is quite a simple one compared to what we do in other fields (social medias suggestion algorithm use up to 10 thousand arguments, google search and LLM uses up to millions). The problem is, with CS, some arguments require extra steps to be coded because they are not gathered via match events (a kill that deny possible defuse/plant for exemple, as we saw in yesterday final when monesy killed mezzi on dust2 A site when he tried to plant with 5 second left). You need to code something like "if kill bomb holder while teammate too far and timer too low" which, first you need to think about such case, then can code it according to the variable you can have access to (player too far? You need to have access to the position, the terrain, the speed, create an algorithm to calculate the quickest path a player can make to know if that kill was relevant or not) Basically for some case, a better algorithm would have to recreate part of the CS physic engine. Which is quite simple since Valve did it, and many other companies did their own. And we can all understand that even if simple compared to others, it might still be an herculean task for a team as small as HLTV's. But when an algorithm have edge cases, you have two and a half solutions : - 1. You tell people some results might be off, and you are working to improve it. - 2. You manually correct it tell people beforehand you will do so. - 2.5 You correct it in secret, and only come clean when some user expose you with forum threads on the few instances they noted.

I don't really see a reason to bring up LLMs or other companies that research Algos like Google, since HLTV is a fraction of the size (which we agree on) and they're not using AI for their algos (at least afaik). And changing these values "in secret" makes it seem more nefarious than it is. The alternative would be to make an article or short article everytime they fix some values. Seems like a lot of work for something that doesn't really change much other than the perception of a few ppl that are convinced HLTV is part of a big conspiracy lol And I wouldn't call recreating CSs physics engine simple since I doubt Volvo would give them access to it. If you want to base stats on those simulations you'd have to be sure your engine works exactly like it does ingame. (+ the annoying part of demo files not being a 100% copy of what happened in that moment, but that's probably a non factor overall) Rating 3.0 can definitely be improved, but I think people are throwing a massive tantrum because 1) Zywoo didn't get the MVP, which (even if M0nesy deserved it) is a huge nuisance for some people. 2) This match shows why 3.0 got introduced. KDA + ADR often correlate with a good rating, but it's not a rule.
