n1ssim on facing Aurora in the final: "We want revenge"

The Brazilian squad hasn't forgotten their defeat at the hands of Aurora at the PGL Bucharest event earlier in the year.

Legacy beat SAW in the PGL Masters Bucharest semi-finals, surviving two match points and winning the second map in overtime to win take the series in the decider.

Now, the Brazilian squad have their eyes set on Aurora, the team they will face in the grand final. Mere weeks ago, this would have been new territory for Legacy, but now they are hoping to double up after winning their maiden trophy at CS Asia Championships in Shanghai.

The match with Aurora, too, has a spice of its own, as Vinicius "⁠n1ssim⁠" Pereira and his teammates have not forgotten their loss to the Turks at the previous PGL Bucharest in April, where Engin "⁠MAJ3R⁠" Küpeli got a beautiful ace 1vs4 clutch to jboot.

With the taste of victory still fresh, Legacy are looking to strike again. "They beat us at the previous PGL Bucharest earlier this year, and in that game MAJ3R had that insane highlight, and I think that we will come for revenge," n1ssim says. Read more in the interview below.

I’m here with n1ssim from Legacy. Congratulations, that was a crazy game against SAW, but you are now in your second consecutive grand final. How do you feel?

The feeling is amazing. We’re so happy that we’re in back-to-back finals, and I hope that we're going to win. I think the game was so hard — on the first map (Inferno) we couldn’t open the game. We go Banana, we get shut down; we go Mid, we get shut down; but we had a conversation: "Hey guys, let’s keep it up, they had a bit of luck." Of course, they are good players, but I feel like they had so much luck on Inferno, and on the second and third maps I think we had our own control.

Tell us more about that second map. It felt like the game was over when you were down 10-12, but then you won a 4v2 and a 5v3. There was even that round number 18 when lux clutched a 1v2 on ramp with no time. Did you ever feel like it was over, or you are that type of a team that never gives up?

We have an inside joke, that we look at Vitality. When they had like 30 wins in a row, they would always win the maps like 13-11, in overtime, with amazing comebacks. When we have these types of games as well we always go: "Oh guys, we are always coming back." We stay focused and say, "Okay guys, we are Vitality as well, we are a little bit like Vitality."

So, when we were 10-12 down we just told ourselves that we need to chill, just win the round, win the clutches. Just think, "Okay guys, we’re close to Vitality," in this sense. So I think we have a good mentality to come back.

After you closed Nuke in overtime, it felt like the game was yours for the taking, especially with the start that you had on Ancient. Did it also feel like that for you?

I think after a lot of hours in the game, the guys playing until 6 AM since they were 13, we all know it’s all about the momentum. And we won the pistol, the first buy round, so I think it was about momentum.

Your role is more of a supportive/lurking element. What is the dynamic like between you and the hyper aggressive guys like dumau and lux? How do you find ways to still be impactful on a team that relies on fast-paced Counter-Strike so much?

I think they are making a lot of space for me, they are doing a lot of fast plays and stuff. That creates so many gaps for me, and sometimes I’m just a passive rifler, but sometimes I go for insane plays and people say, "Okay n1ssim, that’s good, keep going." They let me do stuff and I think we complement each other very well.

And lastly, you are about to face off against Aurora in the grand final. You’ve probably seen what they did to GamerLegion. How are you feeling going into that game? Do you think that you can get MAJ3R and the others into that crisis that they said they were in?

Yeah, they choke a little bit in the late games. But we want revenge. They beat us at the previous PGL Bucharest earlier this year, and in that game MAJ3R had that insane highlight, and I think that we will come for revenge.
