We had a few days to reflect on the DreamHack Summer 2010 results, and now it is time to take a look at who were the best players at this event and how they stood out. mTw's Danny "zonic" Sørensen was named MVP of the event, so read on to see if he earned it and who was his biggest competition, as well as many other interesting stats.
The winners of DreamHack Summer 2010, mTw, displayed incredible form by winning all 9 maps they played last weekend, reminding us of their play back in 2008. Therefore, it shouldn't be much of a surprise that four of their players find themselves among the ten best rated.
The main favorites before the tournament, fnatic and Na´Vi, could perhaps blame their results on the cruel playoff format (single elimination) as they both won their groups, but were eliminated after close matches in the quarter-finals. However, they surely couldn't blame their star players, especially the Swedes as they have two guys in the top ten while the Ukrainians have one.
The new-look SK ended their campaign in fourth place, but on that road they were half successful with 5 wins in 10 maps and none of their players showed consistently good performances. On the other hand, the teams that could be considered overachievers in this tournament, H2k, MYM and concode, will find their star players featured among the best.
So let's take a look at who those best rated players are, and also some other statistical categories that could be interesting such as top awpers, entry killers and pistol round players.

Although Oliver "minet" Minet didn't have any exceptional performances, he also didn't have a bad game throughout the tournament. He had positive K-D difference in all but one map of the 9, and his consistency was surely very important for the team's overall victory.

Everything that was said for Minet can also be said for Alexander "ave" Holdt, who demonstrated the same consistency, and probably made even more difference for his team. The reason why this can be said is that he performed high above what was expected of him as he is the team's in-game leader, especially if we take into account his performances in previous tournaments, compared to which he was 25% better. Holdt had second most entry kills in the tournament (33), which is also a bit unorthodox for an in-game leader.

MYM's star player Marcus "Delpan" Larsson led his team to, perhaps a surprising, third place finish. He had rating over 1.00 in 9 of his 11 maps and was always one of the best for his team. Larsson strangely didn't use the awp as much as in previous tournaments, as only 25% of his kills were with it compared to 39% in past events. However, that didn't affect his status as one of the best awpers in the tournament, as he had the most kills with it (55) and was 3rd best in awp kills per round (0.20). He also had the most total entry kills in the tournament (37).

Usually overshadowed by his teammates, Sergey "starix" Ischuk stood out this time as the best player from the disappointed Na´Vi. He had rating over 1.00 in all 5 of his team's maps, and he was top rated in 2, including their last map in the tournament, the double-OT against SK. Ischuk was also the best entry killer in the tournament, with the first kill in 22 rounds and only 7 first deaths which means he won 76% of such duels.

One of H2k's latest additions, Emil "FYRR73" Karlsson, will take most of the responsibility for his team's success, as he should be establishing himself as the star of the new lineup after the performances in this tournament. On their road to second place, he barely had a bad game, and he had the 5th best KPR (0.86) in the whole event. Karlsson was also one of the better awpers in the tournament with 37 kills.

Manne "manne" Nordqvist has been called the biggest upcoming star in Sweden for a while now, and he definitely didn't disappoint at DreamHack. His great performances helped concode reach quarter-finals and only be eliminated in second overtime of the third map. Nordqvist was twice top rated, including a great performance against SK that secured his team the first place in their group, and he also had 4th best KPR (0.87).

One of fnatic's two madfraggers, Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg, won't be as disappointed with his performances as with his team's result, since he was one of the best rated players despite his team dropping out unexpectedly in the quarter-final. He stood out due to his great DPR (0.56), as well as being one of the best awpers, a role that he has been taking on more lately, with second-best 0.23 kills per round with the Arctic Warfare sniper rifle. In addition to that, he was the second best rated player in pistol rounds.

The other star player from fnatic, Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund, seems to never disappoint, as he was among the best yet again, recording what would usually be an MVP-worthy 1.39 rating. With the 3rd best KPR (0.90) and one of the best DPRs (0.58) in the tournament, and also by being 24% better than his team's average, he is surely not the reason fnatic didn't make it any further.

Martin "trace" Heldt had an impressive tournament during mTw's road to victory, as he excelled in many different areas. First of all, he had the second best KPR (0.94), shared the best DPR (0.51) and was top rated in 5 of his 9 maps. He was also by far the best pistol round player, as well as one of the best entry killers in the tournament with a +18 entry K-D. And in addition to being that good at getting the first kill in a round, he was also the best at staying last, as he won 10 rounds when he was left alone (5 x 1on1, 2 x 1on2, 2 x 1on3, 1 x 1on4).

The top rated player is the one who surely left the biggest impression in this tournament, mTw's Danny "zonic" Sorensen. In addition to having the best KPR (0.97) and DPR (0.51) and being top rated in 4 maps, he was definitely the most dominant player with 4 aces and another 4 four-kill rounds. One of those aces was the already famous 1on5 in the second map of the final, in which he had another 2 aces including one in the first pistol round. That also helped him to be the 3rd best pistol round player of the event. The performance in the second map of the final earned him an incredible 2.02 rating, but that wasn't his best match in the tournament, as he announced his great form early on in his team's first match against the same opponent in groupstage with an even more impressive event-best 2.48 rating.
Summary and honorable mentions
After all that said, it should be clear that the only real competition for Sørensen in the MVP contention was his teammate Heldt. The only question that remains is whether Sørensen's domination and moments (matches) of brilliance were enough for him to deserve the award, or perhaps Heldt's versatility and excellence in many areas of the game should have prevailed. That is something that the stats can't show us, and is just a matter of personal opinion.
A couple of players who didn't make it to the top rated list also deserved to be mentioned for their contribution to their teams' success. The first is Niklas "niko" Johansson from H2k, who played his first big tournament after returning from retirement. He had a few great games, was top rated three times, twice with amazing rating above 2.00, while he was also 4th best pistol round player and the 5th best awper.
The other one is Andreas "moddii" Fridh, who also marked his return, but to MYM, with several great performances, three times man of the match worthy ones. He especially stood out in important matches, such as the double-OT third map against concode where he had his best performance with 44 total kills. Fridh also brought his A-game in the third place decider, as he was top rated in both of his team's map wins that brought them the podium place.
Top Awpers
The best awper of the tournament was fnatic's Harley "dsn" Orwall, while only he and, surprisingly, his teammate Lindberg used the awp as their primary weapon. MYM's Larsson amassed the most kills with it (55), while the winners' main awper Christoffer "Sunde" Sunde made sure that all mTw players are featured among the best in some category.

Top Pistol Round players
Heldt was very impressive in pistol rounds with a 2.28 rating, or more precisely a 26-9 score in 18 pistol rounds he played. Also very good in second place is fnatic's Lindberg, while Sørensen helped Heldt to make their team the best in pistol rounds, as they won 78% (14/18) of them on the road to success.

Top Entry-kill players
The best player in this category is Na´Vi's Ischuk as he had most entry kills per round and best entry K-D per round. Second best is fnatic's Örwall who didn't go into first duels often, only 20 times, but he won 80% of them. Third is another already mentioned player, mTw's Heldt, while the only SK player that stood out somehow is Rasmus "Gux" Ståhl, and that was in this category with 32 total entry kills.
And here are a few possibly interesting stats related to entry kills:
- SK lost all 14 rounds when Gux died first
- cArn got the first kill in 13 rounds and fnatic won all of them
- Zeus was the player most involved in his team's entry duels (32%), but won only 47% of them
- esenin was the least involved in his team's entry duels (6%)
