The Electronic Sports World Cup organizing committee announces the seeding pools for the 2010 world finals.

On Thursday next week, ESWC will officially be back, when the 2010 world finals kick off in Disneyland. For some time we have known which teams will be in the competition and today the seeding pools for the tournament are announced.

For Counter-Strike 1.6, four pools will be used to generate eight groups. When a team is drawn, and a team of the same nationality is already in that group, the team is put aside and another team is drawn. This will prevent teams of the same nationality to end up in the same group. The four seeding pools are as follows:

LOL MIBR actually won a lot of stuff already. The biggest one was 2006 eswc, I'll admit it, but they've won some kode5, shangai open, dreamhack, etc... They should be top seed, but not over na'vi, over damn EG. EG never wins anything...

Just because they got invited doesnt mean they should get the lowest seed. And the groups havent been drawn yet so taking another teams seed is pointless. If it were fnatic in Mojawi's place (ie. didnt qualify and got invited), would they still not be one of the highest possible seeds? If not then thats stupid. Mojawi deserve ATLEAST a medium seed without a doubt, if not better.

Fair Frag and PZ.fi should definitely be high seeded. I mean, what have ALTERNATE achieved on an international level (or even domestic) the last year? Nothing. Fair Frag has been good (better than BURNING at the very least) in France but also good outside of France. Same goes for PZ who won a couple of domestic LANs and performed well against the scandinavian top teams in pretty much every tournament they played them in. Oh well, everyone can't be happy/satisfied.

Haha. Why would they have to win an international lan just to get in the high seed? What did Alternate and FireGamers win then? Playzone won all finnish LANs, finished top8 in Inferno Online League Season 2.1 (on LAN) after losing in the quarterfinal against SK who came to win the tournament so they might have gone even further if they hadn't had to face SK so early. In Inferno Online League Season 2.2 (also on lAN) they finished 3-4th after losing in the semifinal against the topmix INFAME who won that tournament after beating compLexity in the final. Besides all these great performances they also played very solid in online competitions such as the very competitive EPS. Now, please explain to me how I am a fanboy. I am not actually from Finland, which means that my view on this whole matter aint affected by my nationality, if that's what you thought. Oh, I almost forgot that they also finished 4th at the norwegian LAN "The Gathering" which featured teams like Frag eXecutors, UNiTED and H2k just to mention a few.

Alternate is participating in almost every big event and they played vs mTw, NaVi and others top teams. Don't know about FireGamers. Maybe they are don't worth to be there. Playzone: hltv.org/?pageid=216&eventid=571 Wow. Out in group stage. And by the way. Finnish cs scene is low. There is only 1 good team PlayZone and others are mix or lower skill than playzone (before PowerGaming came in) ESL Pro Series Germany league > Finnish cs scene. So don't say that PlayZone is better than Alternate...

The comparision between The german EPS and the finnish scene isn't purely acurate. Since EPS doesnt exist in Finland but instead in Scandinavia you should instead compare with that. In EPS, Playzone have played very well and the scandinavian EPS is A LOT more competitive than the german EPS will ever be. And no, Alternate is not at all competing at "almost all big international events" and they have certainly dont caused harm to any topteam since they beat fnatic in the 2009 edition of Extreme Masters in the LAN-finals in march. However I can understand that it's easy to be fooled of a team like Alternate since they have been doing so well in their own domain (read Germany) for so many years in a row now, but they are far away from the team they used to be around 2007.

i think you'll find that one of the key benefits of logic is that its universal.. seeding is and should be based on how good a team is. its in place so that all the best teams are in different groups. ruining that system because a team that used to be good 2 years ago is the defending champion is idiotic. it defeats the reason for using seeds.

teams should not be ranked based on their past achievements. those are for the fans, the advertisements in the future, and the memories. what does the past have to do with anything in terms of how they should be ranked in 2010. now i am no cs guru but how many teams have had a consistent 5 for at least 2-3 years in the history of CS (and done well). basically what im saying is if you don't have the same roster in the year you are trying to compare them with.. how can it work?

Mojawi being 'challengers' is stupid, who cares if they took another teams spot and were invited instead of qualifying.. they're still a better team than many other teams there and deserve a much higher seed. The whole point of seeds is to evenly rank teams based off previous results and thus create FAIR/EVEN groups. Putting one of the better teams in the lowest possible seed pool will NOT help to create those fair & even groups and will inevitably create a group of death where 1 good team (if not more) will HAVE to be eliminated. If it were fnatic in Mojawi's place (ie. not qualifying and being invited) would they also be put as a 'challenger'? Because if so thats stupid. Other than Mojawi, it mostly looks ok i suppose bar a few other minor things.

Well... If you guys REALLY wanna talk about the present, take EG and WMF cause they can't win anything, we all know that. h2k and FG deserve their spots, no matter what you say. "OH, BUT FG DIDN'T WIN ANYTHING LATELY, AND H2K JUST WON ONE BIG TOURNAMENT"... well, FG defeated fnatic when fnatic had gux (the invincible fnatic), besides, individually, both teams are better than WMF and EG.

not at all. i guess you can't see it but your opinion makes very little sense and is clearly completely bias. i don't know why you are so upset, FG hasn't proven themselves yet, and H2k is a pretty new team, with one good result, high seed pool sounds pretty good to me. all the groups will be difficult regardless, so you shouldnt be so mad about it.

first of all.. The seedings doesn't matter. We all should be glad there's a ESWC again!! I hope for the players and organisation that it's going to be a great event and that ESWC is going back to where they left off. GL! OT: I would make the exact same seedings but the choice between United and Playzone would be a hard one to make. I think Playzone > United but let's see on ESWC! Can't wait!
