Xizt: "I think FX will win it"

We got a chance to speak with Richard "Xizt" Landström a few days prior to attending ESWC 2010 in Paris, France.

H2k Gaming raised a few eyebrows when defeating fnatic in the quarter-finals at DreamHack Summer and ended up making it all the way to the Grand Final, where they got defeated 2-0 by mTw.

ESWC 2010 will be the first big international appearance for the team, but is not allowed to attend with their usual-fiver, due to the ESWC regulations.

In this exclusive interview with HLTV.org, Landström tell us about the preparations the team did, that the team has a lot more to give, followed by several interesting comments.

You will alongside your team attend ESWC this week in Paris, what are your expectations before going to such a high-caliber tournament?

Personally I think that ESWC is probably the biggest event of the year together with WCG. I have never been there before myself but what I've heard from other players this is the event that you want to go to, it just seem so professional and well done. Our expectations are sky-high and we are really looking forward to it.

How has your team been practicing for the competition?

Before DreamHack we played two weeks non-stop online, just practicing and going through tactics etcetera. When we got home from DreamHack we took some days off and just started practicing online again. I don't feel like we're prepared though, since we have to play with pop instead of niko due to the ESWC rules states that we have to play with at least 3 players that qualified.

pop is a great player and he know most of our tactics already so I can't really say how this will affect our performance at ESWC, but niko will be missed for sure. I think we have to change our game plan for this event since we're playing with a stand-in. We're going to play very random and trust our individual skill.

You have been drawn into Group B with Frag eXecutors, TeG and KaoS. What is your opinion about the teams you will meet in the group stage?

I don't really know that much about KaoS and TeG. It will be a nice match versus FX, I have been playing them before and never won so maybe this time we'll catch a break. I think we should beat KaoS and TeG without any problems.

What are your team's goals for this tournament?

Wow hmm, tough to say. I think we proved at DreamHack that on a good day we could beat anyone. We are in it to win, otherwise we wouldn't go, but I guess a realistic goal is top5.

Your latest campaign was DreamHack Summer, where you ended up second behind mTw. Defeating fnatic and MYM in the playoffs before reaching the final, was it a key element to play domestic teams in order to go this far?

No I don't think so. I think the reason why we had such a hard time versus mTw, both in group stage and the final was because they've studied our tactics and how we play. We had to change some tactics as they knew what we were doing all the time. Big ups to the mTw guys, they played really awesome through the whole tourney and I think they're going to be back dominating again like back in 2008.

How hard do you think it will be at ESWC, now playing against teams from all over the world?

It differs from playing Swedish teams for sure. We have some experience with international teams, and probably kHRYSTAL with the most experience from his time in SK. This is mine and pronax first international event if you don't count The Gathering in Norway (you shouldn’t, it sucked). It's going to be something new for the most of us, but we're looking forward to it and it's going to be a great challange.

Doing well at DreamHack Summer, especially defeating fnatic, do you think teams will study your play closely, as a result your performance and what will you do to eventually counter this?

Yeah I think there are some teams that will study our tactics... *cough* mTw *cough*.. Nah but we had to change a lot since we have to play with pop instead of niko. niko was our main AWP'er and pop is worse than me with the sniper, which is not good. So yeah we had to change a lot and you´ll probably see a lot of AWP'ing from FYRR73 & kHRYSTAL.

At DreamHack Summer ave from mTw told us you are definitely an upcoming team, do you feel the same way or do you think you have already made your mark?

Yeah as I said this is something new for the most of us, at least for me. I think we have a lot more to give and we're just getting better and better by time. We have already proven that we can beat the best teams out there but I think that we can get a lot better, no doubt.

The team went through some changes recently, is the team still in the process of fitting things together or is everything in place?

No no, we still have a long way to go. I have a nice feeling about this lineup though, everybody gets along just fine and we're having fun, I think that's the most important part. If you don't get along you won’t accomplish anything. DreamHack was our first event with the lineup and we finished 2nd, we are satisfied with that and if we just stick together and keep practicing I think we could go very far.

ESWC will be one of the event highlights of the year, who do you see as the main candidates to walk away with the trophy and which teams will play a role as dark horses?

I think Frag eXecutors will win it, they always play good at ESWC. If not I think it probably will be fnatic or mTw. I think that FireGamers will upset some top teams as well, it have been a while since I saw the Brazilians playing. I also think that our friendly neighbors in Norway could surprise with some nice results.

H2k Gaming have been drawn in Group B alongside Frag eXecutors, TeG and KaoS. Stay locked to HLTV.org for more ESWC 2010 pre-coverage, as well as on-site coverage from ESWC 2010 July 1-4.

Ohh yeah .. that would be awesome if they win .. I so want them to .. But after Arbalet I have some doubts ... they were bad in that .. For those who say Neo is gone .. just look at FX last game in Arbalet cup .. Neo was single handedly trying to carry FX on CT side on d2 .. Although they lost but there were 4 rounds which Neo won for the team .. He is still the best and most consistent player ..

the true "golden five" which we've seen in 2006/2007 has end in 2nd half of 2007, but despite of that, they every year are capable to win one really big event if they don't win eswc 2010, they will win wcg 2010 for sure

true. noticed it like 2 years ago. neo lost so much of his incredible reflexes. watch his pov playing against sk i think back in 2006/2007 on nuke where he went 30+ frags and compare it to the more recent ones. completely different style and completely different player.

Lol guys.. FX can for sure win this..they are still a top team...and they still can win over any team in the world on a good day...what they lack imo is stability. But dont count them out even if they havent been super good lately. In their last events i have seen that they are getting better and better even if it doesnt show in their results.

You have to look at the past 6 Months. They were not even close to anything. Almost every tournament they went to, they crashed out of the group stages, with no or very few wins. If they had lost to some good team then, fair enough, but they managed to lose against semi-professional teams - with large margins. I think that alone talks for itself.

plz tell me which semi-professional teams, and dont forget that many top teams also have lost to semi's or mixes, just like SK vs ConCode at dreamhack some days ago (if im not wrong) It's true that FX guys aren't at their best, but they are still a top team, they're still top players individually. So they can win it, just like fnatic mtw SK and others. And about pasha, he has been playing really good, he have already prove he can fill luq's shoes. I think that neo and f0rest are the best players, some of you would say that neo isn't that good anymore, but you have to realize that his team is losing, so is a bit harder to shine. However, he continues doing that some many times. This is just my opinion, i'm not a polish 'FANBOY', I just support FX, and i hope they could comeback to his best form. The fact that i like FX doesn't mean i hate swedes, i don't know the reason of those flame wars between theirs fans. It's just a game, enjoy it :P GL FX at ESWC hope to see a good tournament :)

To be honest, it's a very last chance for FX to wake up. In other hand, telling that NEO and co. are weak at the moment is risky. I doubt there is a top player who would say that facing Poles (even if they achieve nothing in 2k10) is a walk through a park. Let's calm flame wars down, there is no sense in abusing each other.

Interesting interrview from Xizt, i think Fx are really strong at eswc because it's a long tournament and they take time to study others team gamelay with accuracy and they stay really calm and serious in hard and depressing situations. But they are not the only one, mTw are really good at that game too. Let see after Dreamhack if they can repeat 2007's top2 or maybe show us a new EPIC WIN.

FX might get past the first groupstage, but after that it is goodbye. In my eyes their chance is that other teams are not that well prepared for FX, because of poor play lately, which might have caused other teams to keep focus on teams like mtw, SK, fnatic, Navi and so on.

Frag executors Perform well in these kind of tournaments. As in WCG 2009 they hardly reached finals and they lost 1 map each in Knock out stages but in FINALS they won 2-0 so they can upset. GO GO GO frag executors.

If we are talking about FX we can say imo they are better than SK, because they have got one stable, line-up since few years. SK change their line-up in last 4-5 months few times, Tentpole, Zet, Khrystal, Fyrr, and hmmm.... don't remebmer nickname but he was from Begrip, and what they won in last few months? FX refreshed lineup only in one place, they picked up talented AWPER who need to take place after legend of Luq. Maybe they aren't the best at this moment but they deserved to be in top bracket and Xizt have right that they can win but IMO they will not win but they will be in top5 for sure.

Mark my words boys. FX pisses on other minor tournaments, but when it comes to major ones like WCG and ESWC - they always train a lot and play big games. Even if pasha fails, they may not win but they will still play definately better than on all other tournaments this year - you'll see that.

Give it a rest... People are just being realistic, saying that FX won't win, due to FX not achieving anything internationally lately.. It's more than can be said about all the fanboys claiming that FX owns all, and that because they have won WCG and ESWC 2 times before, they will own all other teams. FX might surprise, but based on their game, as seen for a long time, it is highly unlikely.

ok, you are right, but people writing , that they have no any chances. I think Fx can win this event, and they can be "black horse". MTW had bad times too lately, but when they won dreamhack, all pseudo fanboys love them and write in comments - "mtw win, mtw win" i think fx can show us very good game, maybe they not win, but i think they will show us , whats is POLISH POWER ! (sorry for my english, you are so better than me :))

You are entitled to your opinion about FX, as well as everybody else. I think they will go out at second groupstage, you think they will win, fair enough. :) What bothered me was just to see a lot of people saying that because they won WCG and ESWC in the past, they are still ownage, despite them not playing well lately. They will surprise me if they can compete with the other top teams, but of course they have done it before - it will be interesting to see how prepared they are. Don't apologize for your English, I understood it, thats good enough ;)

Every team has a chance to win this tournament it's just depends on how well did they prepare for it. And cut the crap about fx whether they will win or not. They are playing for themselfs, I mean that they are playing to win some prices and visit new country/place.. *Loord: "..at the end all that matters are good memories."

i think FX are bad nowadays cuz in the past they were depending on Neo a lot and now when he is not in top form their are crap. For me there is 3 ways to fix it: 1.get another frager 2.get better tactics 3.Neo goes in hero mode. So we will see what of those 3 may be.

None expects them to take the trophy... even to get top3 (I'm talking about FX) just like no1 expected it at WCG, so they have big chances to get it IMO... they've got nothing to loose, and I'm pretty sure they practiced a lot.

Also, I think FX will win. It's true the last time have some problems, but these hooks have different teams, for example: mTw not showed up for a year at competitions, and now last won a tournament. I think FX is ready to defend gold two-fold. It will be three gold for Polish 1 - FX 2 - fnatic 3 - SK-Gaming This is not a specific prediction, even though I am Polish, I still consider the FX guys as the best band in the world.

"I think Frag eXecutors will win it, they always play good at ESWC. If not I think it probably will be fnatic or mTw. I think that FireGamers will upset some top teams as well, it have been a while since I saw the Brazilians playing. I also think that our friendly neighbors in Norway could surprise with some nice results." +2 ! =)) 1 - Fx 2 - fnatic 3 - WHO KNOW ? =D
