ESWC referee on FG-H2k issue

XGAMING TV have conducted an interview with ESWC head referee Camille Versteeg regarding the incident between FireGamers and H2k Gaming.

In this two-part video interview, Versteeg explains why the tournament officials first decided the two teams should play overtime to decide who would go through, only to reverse their ruling right after, seeing FireGamers progress into the knock-out stage.

You can follow HLTV.org's full coverage of the 2010 ESWC finals here.

h2k played way better than fg did. as it would've been more fair to have a match between h2k n fg to determine who would play next.

They did play actually, and it ended in a draw. It's groupstage you know, draws happen, and team that beats worst team by larger margin goes trough, unless stated otherwise in the rules. It's always been like that, so don't know why all the drama. Have to live with it.

Stop trying to make an irrelavent argument. They played eachother already and the result was a draw. As for all tournaments with groups when you have the same amount of points the rounds matter. H2K had their chance to win it out right but they didn't do it. Regardless of who you like more or thinks deserve it, the rules say FG move on, its that simple.

given that FG and H2K drew 15-15 in the initial match that they played it seems foolish to declare that H2K deserved it more.

This is a quality example why NOT to play all the way to 30 rounds. When FG hit 16 - the French team had absolutily nothing to play for, but at the same time they're performance meant everything for H2k. Just sad and fak'd up!

Yes and this is a quality example that matches shouldnt be able to end up 15-15...it should be OT so we get a winner.

i agree. they should do first to 16, and if teams are tied for won games in the group, make them play a match to break the tie. why should one teams fate lie in another teams hands?

I feel bad for the head ref. English is not his first language so it got difficult at times for him to try and illustrate his point. With that said the guy that conducted the interview was an ass and tried to continually trap him when he was trying hard to explain himself. I think it was a very unprofessional way to conduct that interview. It was more of an attempt for the interviewer to feel like a big shot constantly badgering the ref with the same question over and over.

That was his fault, he was put on the defensive the whole time with the constant asking of intentionally throwing the game. The interviewer was terrible and spent almost the entire time trying to get the ref to say that mojawi left intentionally so FG could move on and not H2K. Instead of trying to ask proper questions and getting a real explanation of what happened.

I think the ref makes some very good points in the last few minutes of the interview. He basically says that the rulebook already covers this situation in a sense, being covered by the rules regarding intentionally throwing rounds to aid another side. He rightly points out that even if a team like Mojawi had stayed an played, given that they were out they would most likely have played with much less desire to win and would have lost the rounds anyways. I think the rules DO cover the situation appropriates, it just takes an admin judgement which was made adequately here

#16 that's like a team lost a match and they are given a 2nd chance to redeem themselves. You must be retarded, maybe sk and col should rematch even tho col lost badly. Scared? Every team would be scared if that would happen. The groups were already released therefore it wasn't needed. Like i said h2k should win their matches instead of crying.

What a bad interviewer. He keeps insinuating a conspiracy against H2k. The rules are fair. If H2k didn't want to be dependent on the FG - Mojawi score they should have beaten FG in the first place. And this is coming from someone working for H2k. ps. qX is a rock solid competition admin.

Most unprofessional interview I have ever seen. How can an interviewer think the questions he asked were appropriate. He insinuates and accuses the person he is interviewing and is totally disrespectful. As part of the media he should be indifferent and not conduct himself in this way. I hope the interviewer loses his job. Also he cries like he is park of h2k, when he should care since he is just a media representative.

Well Andy and p0cket, the interviewer is a esport profile here in sweden and he has been an admin for a couple of well known leagues/tournamen ect. He knows how to solve conflicts and he wanted to ask the hard questions. he believed they did a bad call just because of it desideing the outcome of the whole group. I believe an extra match between FG and H2k would be the most fair Decision. As other ppl has stated, Sk could have given h2k rounds as well. Cuz it would not have changed anything for sk. And its unprofessional of mowagii to just leave. they should have been disquallified from the turnament. and an extra map should have been played. to make the best team go trough. Im not voucing for h2k as it seems. just feel like this Esport should be more professional and fair play should be they #1 priority. Im too have been an admin for cups/turnaments. i recall that FX and fnatic played a extra map just cuz of same reason. I believe it was a tournament in Russia. That is the best way to deside what team is the best. Because fg and h2k played a draw.
