ESL cut $130,000 for IEM5
Electronic Sports League have announced the total prize purse of $400,000 for Intel Extreme Masters season 5, which is a cut of $130,000 compared to season 4.
The unveiling of information for IEM5 continues as the fourth board was unveiled today. On the board it is written "In total $400,000" which is assumed to be the total prize purse for the fifth season. ESL has on the previous boards announced that the fifth season will consist of 6 events, with Counter-Strike 1.6 and Quake Live revealed as Main Titles and an event in New York City (American Championship Finals).

Season five cheques to be small?
The $400,000 prize purse is in fact almost half of what the third season had, which was a total of $750,000 handed out in three games. The fourth season had a total prize purse of $530,000, which was a $220,000 cut compared to season three. This will most likely make people question whether there are financial problems going on within ESL as a whole, or only for IEM5.
ESL has also been criticized by teams for taking a very long time to pay out the prize money. Prize money from IEM4 European Championship Finals and World Finals is still due to be paid out, HLTV.org has learned.
