Arbalet map contest winner found

The $5,000 map contest which Murat "Arbalet" Zhumashevich announced in May, striving to find a sixth map to Arbalet Cup, has now finalized as the winner map has been picked.

More than three months has passed and a total of 62 maps were submitted to the contest. The organizing committee of Arbalet Cup has now selected the winner map, which is designed by Sergei "Hiubert" Mozzhukhin and is named de_hell. Winning the contest has granted him $3,000 for his work, while runner up Colin "brute" Volrath receives $2,000 for his creation of de_cup2_brutesmaps.

The Arbalet Cup organizers do however stress that the map is not complete, as it will enter a test period, where it will be tested by Natus Vincere, fnatic and SK Gaming. The teams will add their opinion about what changes should be made, for which each team will receive $1,000.

You can check out the map yourself and add your comments about it. Download it by clicking here. The map will furthermore be tested this weekend at Arbalet Cup Alamaty, where the map will for the first time be used in a competition.

Stay tuned for the updates on the map, once the pro-teams have submitted the changes they feel is needed for the map to be added as the sixth map of Arbalet Cup.

Well , as terrorists you have only one way to get in to the B site , just like in de_inferno. But at A site , it's a bit different. But the map is really similar to de_inferno.

Hmmm, de_hell is definitely one of the better maps submitted theres no doubt about that, i really think there were a few other clearly better submissions that should have won though. As for second place, that doesnt deserve it at all there were far far better submissions (for example the other two brutesmaps submissions are significantly better than that, aswell as a handful of others). That map wasnt even made for this competition it was done by him ages ago but meh whatever. Its great that arbalet ran this competition it was desperately needed, but all in all its slightly disappointing as there was the possibility to really make a good solid 3-4 highly competitive maps out of all the submissions (fog, cup6, brutes1&3, 1-2 others), yet in the end only one of the average ones is recognised and the rest will probably end up being dumped..

The final version of it that was renamed (i forget what to) is yes, as were a couple of other maps. At the very least they were better than the 2nd place winner. I'm mainly more just disappointed that the few great submissions that wont get recognised wont ever get touched up into competitive maps and used in tournaments. There was some real potential to actually bring in a handful of new maps into the competitive map-pool here but unfortunately that wont happen :(

I've gone thru the map now, and wow, its pretty much as inferno, one way in to B site and 2 way in to the A site. Found a nice awp spot at B site, which the other opponet can't see, really.

it's too easy playable map imo like de_dust2 or de_tuscan i mean you can't do anything interesting there just play same tactical game as always ... i would like to see a map who need less tactical game ant more gamers individual skills like de_train :)

ive already played half a dosen scrims on this map, i must say i really like it. I think it needs a slight tweak in the 'white halls' and maybe remove those vents, but other than that its great :D It's T balanced about 10-5 (similar to dust2)

Keep in mind that the competition called for an inferno remake of some sort, hence why it is the way it is. I liked the CT side of the map a lot, but the T side is pretty bad. The stairs made it feel like you were a midget. There were a few good concepts that the current maps don't have, but it's going to need a lot of overhauling to be a successful competitive map.

Judging by first impression, the map is better for CTs. With good respawns is easy to spot the main access to bombsites, specially B entrance. Also the CTs can rotate quickly through CT spawn and retake the bombsites. I'm not sure, but I think isn't possible make flashbangs over the B double doors. Probably it's crucial in a slow strategy to prevent agressive CTs there. Anyway, let's wait for the PROs opinions.

Wasn't the contest supposed to be extended till the end of August? Could we at least have an idea of the marks each map received? Who tested it? How? Where is the final list of the submissions, the Arbalet's official statement? The elected map is not even finished!! How can Arbalet's people state this map won the contest as it might need some readjustments? At this rate, any map could have secured first place. Obviously Brute received 2K to shut is mouth and observe how gullible the CS scene is. As if any foreign mapper could have win the contest against Arbalet's buddy... Come on, this is just ridiculous. Having money does not grant you the right to treat people like cattle Mr Arbalet.

I love your post and I agree 100%. Yes the contest was ran poorely. I know many mappers who worked their fingers to the bone to hit the original deadline back in June, staying up late, and working hard to make the deadline for their submissions. Then the contest was extended due to the amount of submissions which is fine I guess. So everyone was working hard getting new maps in or cleaning up their original maps. Or in my case working on my 4th submission which would have been ready for August 30th. Then the contest ends for no reason.

it's a map like inferno with some change. 1 the middle is so wide and so straight that a CT standing there can watch all T for a long time. In inferno CT middle also can watch all T ,but he shoud have a good born position and run at full speed and he can only watch only a short time, so if he miss his first shot,he has no chance. this change is a disaster to T. 2 what a fucking B, a good AWP CT and O5 can hold it, T has no chance 3 what a fucking A, CT has to defend 4 direction, left and right, up and down , the designer has delete the garret of inferno ,SO CT has no natural defending. It's a disaster to CT.

The map itself looks good. I have not tried to play a real match on it yet. People has to keep in mind that making a map that is 100% balanced is close to impossible! If someone released de_nuke today, it wouldn't get popular. Too CT based. It takes time to really get to know the bombsite weaknesses, and how to approach it. Give de_hell a chance and some time, and I think it will be a good competition map! Its getting kinda boring to watch/play the same maps over and over again.

Just played some gathers on it and the map really suck balls. The map is to open so flash are no use because CT can dodge to easy. You come to the bombsites to fast. To many boxes and stuff. Why have a balcony on both sites? And the pit under the balcony is so useless. Boring textures and the walls are to high so it feels like you are running around as a midget in a labyrinth. If this map will be picked up in other tournaments (doubt it), all teams will ban it from the mapcycle.

Your absolutely right bro!! We need roof-top flashing n shit!! The pit is completely useless. The boxes on each bombsight is arranged weirdly. The "Long-A" is kinda stupid (its a mile long & flashes are useles in those areas). Too many double-doors, and their height is just crazy!!

well, these topteams will have the b-site on total lockdown, since it's so hard to approach it. i mean, between the doubledoors in the middle and the archway on the site you can gather around and eventually start a go, but from then on it gets insane, as you will be sprayed down by a rifle, or picked one-by-one with an awp. there is no way to get some good flashes onto the site BEFORE entering it, as the wall is way to high imo. concerning the a-site i'm not quite sure what to make of it. it seems pretty challenging to both, as you can approach it from many angles, but at the same time you are able to vary a lot in your defense. both long a and the hallways are so huge that it seems pretty tough to cover them entirely, but then again they're pretty straight, which enables early spotting. and then you have this middle area that the cts reach pretty early, which makes them able to harass the ts, although some counter-grenades easily take care of that. all in all, i kind of like the map, although some balancing might need to be done. let's just see how this plays out, and eventually there will be a pretty neat map in the future. ps: the balcony in the middle is so incredibly useless...they should get rid of it...>_>

Well grats to the first place winner I suppose. Personally the map has zero "inferno" themed flair to it which was the whole requirement for this contest from the start I thought? The only "inferno" aspects to the map are that is laid out exactly like inferno, which wasn't the requirement at all I thought. Oh well, grats to the 1st place winner.
