Gotfrag World Rankings: updated

Every so often the wise people at Gotfrag put together what has turned out to be over recent years one of the most accurate counter-strike world rankings around; and there is no reason why they should be wrong this time around.

Gotfrag released their rankings last night on their website, some of the ranks were expected with the Swedish team fnatic taking the overall number one spot and Pentagram coming in a close second; what is also very interesting to note is that the first four spots of the overall team rankings have all been awarded to European teams, with the first American teaming coming in at eighth place. The Gotfrag rankings have proven time and time again to be as accurate as any other rankings, usually better; and with several of the teams attending the fast approaching SHG Open in Denmark, it will be very interesting to see how the rankings match-up with the results.

World top 10:

1st. fnatic
2nd. Pentagram
3rd. mYm
4th. aTTax
5th. Hacker.Gaming
6th. 69°N-28°E
7th. project_kr
8th. compLexity
9th. mousesports
10th. MiBR

European top 10:

1st. fnatic
2nd. Pentagram
3rd. mYm
4th. aTTax
5th. 69°N-28°E
6th. mousesports
7th. SK
8th. NiP
9th. aAa
10th. NoA

The rankings may prove to be wrong over the course of the year with teams such as aTTax, fnatic and mousesports fielding new lineups for the 2007 and compLexity moving to CSS, however it is almost certain that teams such as mYm and Pentagram who were placed third and second respectively in the rankings will continue to be major players in the counter-strike world and will undoubtedly fight for their ranks, despite the noted flaws only time will tell how accurate these rankings, and if the Gotfrag boys will have got it right again!

On a personal note i would just like to mention that this is my final article for HLTV.org as i am moving on to another organization in the coming weeks; thank you all for reading my articles over the past year and a half here at HLTV.org and thanks to the great people behind the scenes who make this site what it is and bring you all the action week-in week-out. Keep up the good work! ciao :)

I think that Virtus.pro must be 6-th in the world and 5-th in Europe. Finland clan 69N-28E sucks forever. They must go to play anouther games. CS not for this guys... Virtus.pro - the best!!!! And i think NoA is better than aAa.

69N-28E was only team to win a map against fnatic at CPL Winter 2006... Dont make haste judgements.

How the heck did they get 69°N-28°E that high? I've seen them take a beating from most of the clans in the European top10. Don't get me wrong here: They are not bad. It's just that I find them very conservative and not innovating exeptional tactics for exeptional situations, like the swedish teams unfortunately do.

Wtf #1, virtus.pro shouldn't even be on the list, though it's hard to take someone who speaks English the way you do seriously. N69 at least DID something in 06 (3rd @ WCG, 3rd @ KODE5, 2nd @ WSVG UK, 7th @ CPL Winter with a damn standin, 3rd @ CPL Nordic..) And like #3 said, they were the only team who were able to even take a map against fnatic, and again with a standin. #8 Ons battlefield ja/tai source pehmittäny sunki aivos :-D?

" despite the noted flaws only time will tell how accurate these rankings, and if the Gotfrag boys will have got it right again!" Gotfrag rankings have never been anywhere near accurate. These are the same people that ranked wNv #1 in the world on the merit of ONE tournament that they won in their own cheating communist country. As soon as wNv played a tournament outside of china they got wrecked. Pentagram wins one tournament, and all the sudden they're at the top too.

this is realy bad ranking ... realy agree with no "RU" clans in top10 1a)dont agree with "69N-28E was only team to win a map against fnatic at CPL Winter 2006" 1b)dont agree with "though it's hard to take someone who speaks English the way you do seriously" what a stupid reason tbh "Pentagram wins one tournament, and all the sudden they're at the top too." simular to this point of view

If you've been following this game for any amount of time at all, you'd notice that tournaments are random because there are so many different playstyles out there, and obviously some are effective against certain types of other styles. That's why it's possible for scenarios like, Team A > Team B 16-10 | Team B > Team C 16-8 | Team C > Team A 16-2 . That's how teams like MIBr win one tournament every 10 god damned years, they get lucky with the way the tournament plays out, and how fnatic knocks out the top contenders in numerous tournaments, but never actually wins one. The only way you could determine that one team is the absolute best in the world from ONE event, is if the tournament format allowed for each team to play every other team in that tournament. And not to completely discredit Pentagram, they did a great job and beat some top contenders, but one event doesn't justify being ranked #1 in the world, History will repeat itself, just as wNv got the top spot after winning WEG once, and proceeded to get wrecked every showing since, Pentagram is going to lose to some decent team that isn't neccesarily phenominal and you'll all hop off the bandwagon.

#16 N69 WAS the only team who were able to win a single map against fnatic @ CPL Winter. And name ONE russian clan that should be in top-10, based of results. But yeah gotfrag rankings usually are bad.

these rankings are based on results and not on opinions... 69°N-28°E actually attended most big tournaments, which virtus didn't. I agree they are a great team but they haven't done anything last year where 69°N-28°E reached a subtop spot almost every tournament they played
