mTw to earn WCG spot?

Danish WCG organiser Esport Danmark has announced that two teams will hail the country's flag at the world finals in Los Angeles.

The move will be greatly welcomed by mTw, who finished in second place at the qualifier, though it is still unknown whether they will be the ones to join wCrea in Los Angeles.

The name of the second Danish Counter-Strike team to attend the WCG finals will be revealed at the headquarters of the Danish Union of Metalworkers (Dansk Metal) in Copenhagen on September 23.

Last year, Denmark had just one team in the Counter-Strike finals in Chengdu, but it still took the bronze in the competition, as mTw beat CMAX.gg 2-0.

mTw were on show at the Samsung European Championship in Berlin this weekend, finishing in second place after a 2-0 defeat to SK Gaming in the final.

The WCG finals will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, a tournament on which you will find all the info here, on HLTV.org.

If mtw had won against wcrea, there would not be any second spot. Thats why it's a bit lame. The second spot is only because mtw lost the quailifier.

The problem here in Denmark is that Source is taking over the younger population. So when someone retire from 1.6, there is no-one to take their place. And we don't have a lot of really good players with enough international experience. So when mTw "dies", 1.6 in Denmark will probably die too.

well that's not Denmarks fault as it's the the ones charge to arrange the WCG who decides what games are going to be sent to the main event and then pay for some kind of license to play (i believe it is) for the players. Portugal decided not to send a CS team.

I kinda feel like the only reason why Denmark has two spots is cuz mTw failed to qualify. But, then again, they do have some incredible players and teams and those 2 teams will do some serious damage there! Maybe that's the reason as well. (Probably is)

yeah in fact it does... are u kidding me? it was supposed to be 1 spot for DK, so if it is MTW paying for it, ITS NOT FAIR, they had their chance to win a qual and they lose, so, i guess there are some teams, that would be more than happy to pay for their expenses, just so they can be in LA...

Uhm? WCG offers more than 1 spot for the various countries as long as you wish to pay.. Portugal didn't want to pay for any spots, WCG Denmark paid for one, and then mTw probably paid for the second.. Just like Lions who paid their own spot..

exactly, there were no sponsors to host a WCG qual in Portugal, but kick would probably like to pay their players the trip to LA, just like MTW are probably gonna do with theyr players... so u think thats fair if mtw are going to pay? there are teams that didnt have a chance to win a qual, and mtw, a team that did, get the spot out of nowhere.. i dont think thats fair, but ofc, mtw are a big orga, we all know that..

It is VERY expensive to send a team to a WCG, not only do you need to pay the flights, but also the license fee, my guess is an extra spot costs around 10-13k€..

Uhm and so? Very few organizations have that kind of money, and I honestly very much doubt k1ck does.. If they do then they should simply contact WCG.pt, they were the ones who can give the spots away, and they'd probably get it without a fight.

?! I am simply telling you like it is, Portugal HAS a CS spot, but no one to pay for it, if they find someone to pay for it, tada off they go.. Big CS nations like Sweden, Denmark and such have several spots, and can use them if they can find someone to pay for them, in this case Denmark found sponsors for the first spot, and most likely mTw for the 2nd..

Took him a while to understand your point. Respect for your patience lol. Any country can send a team to LA so long as their local WCG org is willing to give them a spot, with or without having to pay for the team's expenses. It's unbelievable how people are hating on WCG.dk and mTw for getting the 2nd spot when they should be be hating on their local WCG organizers instead. Denmark obviously sees more chances of winning the event by sending 2 teams over and they don't even have to pay for mTw to go there. They gain more than they lose. I suppose some people think Denmark should have given their 2nd spot to a more 'deserving' team from other country instead of it's own.

No qualifier, no spot. WCG require marketing through a qualifier to provide a spot, pretty simple actually - it doesnt matter whether there are sponsors who want to pay for a trip.

yeah, i know that but its fair/unfair, portugal don't had a wcg qualifier, k1ck or other team of portugal could not pass the groupstage but i would like to see an portuguese team in the tournament. But its fair to mtw, 3rd wcg 07 , 1st wcg 08 , 2nd WCG 09 i think. Whatever. btw, sorry my bad english

dont get me wrong dude, of course it would only be fair if a Portuguese team gets the spot of course, but they are no match for mTw in any way, it would be sad if top3 team in the world wouldn't be at WCG and the competition would be better with mTw then k!ck. but i totally feel for ya dude :)

acutally they all got 2 spots, they just decided to do the qual different and make it together and only pay for 1 team where as DK decided to just make national qual and send 1 team, and then they/or someone else decided to pay for another team to go.

Apparently so. He and that other Portuguese guy above would love to see WCG.dk giving a spot to k1ck (and possibly covering all their expenses to LA) because it's not fair if mTw were to represent Denmark after their loss in the qualifiers. For some unknown reason, WCG.dk is at fault for WCG.pt's lack of interest in sending their own CS team over. So therefore k1ck e-Sports is now part of Denmark's affair and should be given their *ahem* 'rightful' spot in LA. The only question remains is that, which flag they will be using in the finals? Denmark or Portugal?

omg dude are u fucking kidding me? I DONT CARE if mtw is there or not, im glad if they will cause it will make the tournament a lot better, but think a little bit instead of saying such non-senses: IF wcg created this spot just so mtw can go to LA, its TOTALLY unfair, unless they talk with other teams that didnt have a qual in their countrys and ask them if they would want to go, since this is WORLD cyber games, is that really hard to understand? my whole theory is based on IF, so i dont really understand what the hell is ur problem, men, maybe its because im portuguese i dont know, this whole community seems to a prob with us, i dont understand... im done with whole charade btw..

As mentioned many times by Nomad and various posters above, WCG has given two spots for some countries if the local organizers are willing to cash out. Yes, it wasn't originally intended that they would have two spots, as WCG.dk didn't foresee mTw would lose the qualifier. They had the money to make it possible to send mTw over to boost their chances, so why not? and by the way, I have no personal vendetta against you or the good people of Portugal. It's just that something you say that seems so out of place.

thats what im saying... unbeliable... and people DIDNT KNEW that there were more than 2 spots to each country, that information was only know today, there were even a dane dude that said they only open this slot, so MTW can participate in the grand finals, so, what i said, before i knew that each country had 2 spots or more, makes perfect sense to me, if it doesnt to u, well shit happens... and yeah, this community has something against portugal, maybe its ronaldo envy i dont know..

chill out dude... at WCG 2009 some country send 2 teams to global finals. So the "additional" slot isnt created only for mTw. About the majority of ppl dont know about this rule, it cant be helped since its only been implemented from last year tournament. And im sure your local WCG org or the one who holds the license clearly knows about this rule. It surely is disappointing not to see a Portuguese representative at global finals, but all we can blame is your local organizers who's the one deciding not to send any CS teams to LA.

It doesn't seem that you know how this works? k1ck could have been going, if they paid the trip or found someone to pay for them. All countries have the opportunity to get 2 teams to WCG, it just costs alot of money, which seems that noone is interested to pay for in your country. It's not mtw/who ever gets the 2 spot's fault, that they got the money to pay.

this has nothing to do with Portugal dude, you do realise 2 sweden teams are going too right? You shouldnt blame WCG really, it is not their fault that Portugal is not sending a team, but you do have a spot but someone needs to pay, and apparently WCG.pt doesnt want to.

well Romania had two slots for cs1.6 at wcg 2010 but only 1 team went cause the runner ups didnt have anything paid (it costs $10,000 overall) mtw is in the same situation if i'm not wrong :)

yes and mtw didnt win in their nation, they are not top on the other hand if wcrea were 2nd no one would offer them the spot, so thats kinda bs.

For those saying it's not fair - that's stupid. Of course it's fair! wCrea is still going, the only thing that's happening is that ONE MORE TEAM is going than expected. Absolutely nothing wrong with that! My only thing is for people to stop saying mTw deserved it. By losing the WCG Qualifier, they obviously didn't deserve it. But it's great to see more than one team from Denmark going! GL

its not fair that the nordic regions send 1 single team yet denmark sends 2 ... sweden should get 2 slots and finland and norway should each get a slot ..instead the 3 countries send 1 team for all of them .. and denmark sends 2 ....thats bullshit .. 3 countries send 1 single team but 1 country sends 2??? WCG U SUCK.

denmark is pretty nordic. besides it is fair. it's all up to the sponsor. it's not all up to the wcg.

sweden is sending 2 teams dude. Lions and SK - SK are getting their expenses covered, while Lions have to pay, and wCrea are getting their expenses covered, while mTw has to pay

Oh gosh, PLEASE let it NOT be mTw... I had plans to travel to LA to attend WCG 2010 and watch mTw play and everything. I had everything planned out and arranged... and then, when they lost the qualifier, I canceled everything. ...so if they end up getting to go anyway... I'm gonna be pissed! Haha. If they do go though, good luck! <3

no offence to mtw ....no offence to esport denmark but this is bullshit ....there is a nordic qualifier wich means 3 countries only send 1 team and then denmark gets to send 2 teams??? whoever decided that there should be a nordic qualifier should shoot themsevles in the face... if denmark gets 2 slots ..then sweden should also get 2 slots , finland should get 1 slot, and norway 1 slot ...but instead the 3 countries send 1 single team ...and denmark sends 2?? this doesnt make any sense wcg ..u suck at organizing. im glad mtw get to go ..but i wanted to see fnatic and sk both there this year..
